Loosing an auction by less than the rise amount

Item 172666983035 I bid 27.45 and it was bought at 27.50. Why was the bid of 5cents more accepted when the upbid amount is #1.00

Because that was the max bid.

If I bid 101 and the increments were 10, the bidding would still only go to 101 because that is what I put as my max.

So now you know the winner's max bid was 27.50.

If you had put 27.55 instead of 27.45, you would have won by 5 cents.
