Seller accepted return, but reatins original postage and I have to pay for the return postage as well. This seems like extortion and unfair profit by the seller.

it depends on what is the reason for the return.
And seller didn't retain the postage, they used the postage money to pay for the postage to get the parcel to you in the first place - they don't have it any more, PO does, as well as Ebay (their 10% commission that they charge on postage).
If the item is faulty and you can prove it with photographic eveidence, then open Ebay's 30 days money back dispute and you'll get reimbursed for everything.
If it's a change of mind - you pay for all postages.
