Sent in paper envelope, damaged in post.

Hi, I recently bought a kaftan top, new without tags.  Seller offered free post, top still cost me $17.50, which I thought was reasonable.  It arrived in an Aust Post clear plastic bag, with advice it had been damaged in post.  Item was sent in paper envelope with a piece of cardboard (no plastic bag for protection) and 2 x $.60 stamps.  Item had become wet in post so envelope fell apart, item had water stains up both sides and front, the colour from stamps and cardboard had run into top, and colours on top had run.  I contacted seller via ebay email, and she basically said in reply "Too bad, not her responsibility, how can she forsee item getting wet", I waited for a few days, left neutral feedback then put in paypal claim "Item not as described".  They have found in my favour, but to get the full refund, I must send item back to seller at my cost, and pay for registered post with tracking, so I am out at least $7.20, probably more.  I understand it has to be sent back, but why are sellers penalised by having to pay return post, when item arrives not as described or damaged due to seller negligance.  I should be able to send back in same style seller sent to me, but if I did that I would be out of pocket for the whole amount instead of almost half, as no proof of postage.  Has anyone else had this experience.  I am thinking of just cancelling the paypal claim, and accepting my losses, I suppose I can still wear it around the yard or doing housework.  I rushed leaving neutral feedback, should have been negative.

So sorry you have a bad experience when buying.

I do agree with you that the item should have at least been protected in plastic - a must for fabric items in my view.

This seller has obviously not had this happen before now, I suspect they will now wrap their clothing and protect with a plastic sleeve/bag.

I personally would not bother about returning it. The cost of returning just isn't worth it. Your comments are there for all to see. I suspect the seller has learnt a lesson (or at least I hope so), and will pack more appropriately in future.

How do you work out I would be $10 ahead, I paid $17.50 for the top, and have to outlay $7.20 to send it back because of a negligant seller, so I would out by postal amount and no top to show for it.  No-one ahead in this deal.

Best to just cut my losses I think, this seller is fairly new I suspect(52 positive feedback for selling), so hopefully they learn from this.  I have never had a problem with free post before, usually they arrive in good order.  Besides good chance seller will try and resell top, some other poor unsuspecting buyer will get stuck with it.

Buy a B4 tough bag (@$1.30) and send it back in that as a registered large letter. You spend around $5.70 to get back $17.50 - worth it IMO, i.e being down $17.50 or being down $5.70 (the $7.20 bags wouldn't get you proof of posting for PayPal, btw, but a registered letter will).

The seller's response of denying responsibility for not adequately packaging the item would be enough motivation for me to get a refund, if nothing else was. It doesn't sound like it's worth re-selling so I wouldn't concern myself with getting it back to them safely, however I have been sending clothing in B4 tough bags (vacuum sealed in airtight, plastic zip-lock bags to prevent bunching and water damage) for years (would never just use a paper envelope), they're quite firm and do hold up well.

Sorry - I just remembered they've changed the name, they're now TB2 bags (A4 size).

Hi, thank you for your suggestion. This is my first dealing with sending an item back at Paypal request. Most sellers are pretty reasonable when it comes to disputes, have returned a couple of items not as described, with seller offering full refund with return post (which I know they are under no obligation to do).

This one is hard to deal with, even implied I damaged item myself to get refund (WTF), as she had seen no proof of the damage in question, which I offered to email her originally, but she refused. I will look at my options for sending back registered, I always use click and send (for proof of delivery) and put all items in plastic bags for protection as well. Thank you again.;-)

Cannot believe you gave her neutral, she deserves big fat red dot and only one star in couple of categories.

But most importantly make sure you put her on your BBL to make sure she will not buy something from you and give bad FB in retaliation.

At the very least, you should proceed with the claim so she gets absolutely no money from the sale.  Yes, you are losing but she deserves to more.  She can't resell the item if it's ruined anyway.

Was there any note from AP in the clear bag?  IF so, you could stick that in with it (take a copy of it though).  What a terrible seller. X-(

CHeez, not even a plastic bag with sticky tape.

It's almost without cost to wrap something plastic. I use specialised bags mostly, but it can be done with those plastic handle bags from the shopping centre.
