I am sure these would have been produced in their thousands (at least). I would think 1950s 1960s - my parents were married in the 1940s and I know they had similar cardboard boxes (though cost may have been a factor.) I am sure you know the story that if an unmarried woman slept with the slice of wedding cake under her pillow, she would dream of the man she would marry. In such a situation, a tin would be preferable to a cardboard box!

I have one of those tins from my parents wedding in January 1939.

They were particuarly popular to send a piece of wedding cake to friends and relatives who could not get to the wedding.

I was told that my grandparents had something similar in 1915 but I never saw it so have no idea how similar.
