"and will instead begin a breeding career where her foals could fetch millions if put up for sale."

Real reason for retirement ?  Turn her into a foal-maker.  😐

Whether she wants to or not.  She probably wants a big rest and not be interrupted by randy males.  As we all do when we've worked hard for a while.

I also don't like horse racing and am sad that after working so hard she will now become a breeding machine.  Poor bugger will probably pump out million dollar foal after million dollar foal until she drops dead from exhaustion.

Black Caviar RETIRES from RACING, after winning 25 out of 25 Group 1 races

her owners are castigated for 'wasting her on breeding' and "being cruel" to a female horse...

Seems to me she (and her owners) are teaching Human Females a lesson in how to do it right ~ set yourself up as a winner, then BREED winners to follow you!
