I didn't even bid on this item at all & the seller has cancelled it from his end, but somehow I can't cancel out of my won items.  And now ebay has sent me a message to pay for this item & I don't want it anyway let alone buying it.

You bought the item on the 22nd August.   As it had an expiry date of the 27th you should have paid as soon as you bought it so you could use it.

The seller has not cancelled it...he is expecting you to pay for the item you bought.

I suspect the seller has opened an unpaid item dispute....unless you pay you will get a strike on your account.
