In regards to the decline of ebay for sellers of a certain size

I am one of them

I have just sent a message to Quicksales asking them to lift their game so they can attract more of us and hence more buyers.

They have many good points they can sell themselves on v ebay

They pay tax

They are cheap

They are Australian

I would like to suggest any disgruntled sellers do the same - let them know there are enough of us out there to make it worth their while to promote themselves more, and make a genuine effort v ebay

ebay don't want us, so we don't have alot of choice

Discuss

Robert

As I have said before anybody who relies on a third party to run their business is frankly in my opinion mad. the easiest thing you can do is build your own site take control and stop waiting for someone else to do it for you. if you are just selling a few items then thats not practical stick to ebay as there is zero decent competition and that wont change without a huge financial investment. your best bet is aliexpress etc. in the medium term. otherwise quit moaning and waiting for someone else to move your business forward for you and do it yourself. build your site do it well watch them come. offer better deals than ebay and a better experience and the customers will come.

otherwise you just end up negatively moaning on ebay about ebay.

Hi

So far over 400 people have read this thread with over 30 replys - must be striking a chord!

Sad to hear of another long time, honest, hard working ebayer biting the dust, but thats what happens when such a big company dictates the terms to it's stakeholders ie US!

Wouldnt hurt everyone reading this to send Quicksales a quick email - just something simple like - "I'm over ebay as a seller, when are you going to lift your game so I can come over?"

PS don't use Quicksales as a tax deduction. use one of your other less useful sites . . tyresales !

come on people . . . FIRE IT UP !!

Sounds good. But where does one start?

Not too sure about building my own site?

Imagine if every disgruntled seller did that, how would the buyers find us in amongst all those sites.

I think 1000's of sellers on 1 site works better than 1000" of singular sites, being together acts like a huge mass, drawing buyers who can then shop by category etc. oh wait, sounds like ebay!, maybe thats why it is so successful

I dont see us as relying on a third party so much as having a mutually beneficial business partneship, one that ebay seems to be starting to abuse

See it for what it is, a huge multi national company trying to get every last cent out of anyone, but they do this to their detriment if they cross certain lines, and currently, I think they are getting very close

Start by sending Quicksales an email

tell anyone who cares to listen that ebay is going in a different direction to most Australian sellers

Tell them ebay should pay their way tax wise in Australia, but they aren't contributing

Just the ebay fees alone should be enough to put people off - the buyer pays these fees in the end!

Hi Robert, I actually joined QS some weeks ago as I have been seeing the writing on the wall for eBay for some time now. The carp due to start on 1st November has been 'the straw that broke the camel's back' for me. It's simply unadulterated BS. I cannot understand why a business like eBay would want to sign it's own death warrant. But that's what it's done. Unbelievable!!!

your opinion is in my opinion totally wrong. thousands of sellers on one site drives down prices ( bad for sellers) increases ebays monopoly ( bad for sellers) and increases fees ( bad for sellers)

thousands of sites drives up prices (good for sellers) decreases ebays monopoly ( good for sellers) and decreases selling fees ( good for sellers)

go hire a web designer there are zillions to choose from you can proabbly find one on ebay! make sure its "free" shipping though!

I know how to bulid websites, but I do not sell enough for it to be cost effective. The expense with hosting costs every month, then costs for advertising, then your url address every 12 months, plus the time, also dealing with hosting companies when site is down or offline etc etc.

You really need to know what your doing going down that path, computer skill wise, hosting wise, database wise, SEO tools wise etc etc. Great for big business and some big small businesses but not for the time effective, small hobbists, 2nd hand sellers and specialists sellers. This may suit you. Good Luck!!!

Yep I agree, running your own site has it's own particular issues.

I dont agree that lots of sellers on one site drives down prices such that no one makes a profit, people have been selling on ebay for nearly 20 years - it works!

"Thousands of sites drive up prices" - nope, don't reckon

anyway start by letting Quicksales know they HAVE to lift their game
