Bill, ebay is an ONLINE retail medium. You choose and buy online, from your home or work, and you don't actually get to see or hold the product other than on your screen.
If you want to look at and touch items and talk to a sales consultant you need to go to a normal shop or shopping centre. Please don't take this the wrong way but for someone so inexperienced please proceed very slowly and maybe just buy a couple of cheap items so you can see if ebay is going to suit you.
