Why is it I can only add items to my lists sometimes and other times I'm only able to add things to collections?
Collections are terrible to use on some devices and completely nonfunctional on others and I have no interest in people following me.
I just want to use my lists to keep track of what I want to buy...why is it so hard?

It is hard because ebay wants to get rid of MyLists completely on the Australian site so they make it hard in the hopes that we will forget about the feature.
Disappearing lists has been going on for a couple of years now. The most annoying thing about Colllections is that they do not show the item when the listing is about to end. I missed so many auctions before I found that out.
You can do what most of us dedicated Lists users do........log into the US site and use it there. Once the items are on your lists they will still show when you are back on the Australian site as normal.
