Can this happen? is there a way that eBay can prevent this? I have just won an item that required me to keep bidding (i wanted the item and it was a good price) - but what I notice is that every time I put a bid in it was topped, this went on for days until a certain total was reached then all went quite? if in the last 5 minutes I expected a late bid but not response. I suspect that the bidding was coming from a source that had no intention of buying - just wanted to push the price hihg - Kerry

Thank you apache929 for this tip:

"bids get raised by the same initials with 0, or minimal previous purchases"

There really is a little more to it than apache has indicated.  Maybe that is why his reports are being ignored....there is nothing wrong.

Not a newie idea in the REAL world of auctions it always happens that the price is jacked, personally I would have no hesitation doing this selling anywhere. Factually every item with a reserve is jacked.

I am so glad you came here and said the above...definitely would not buy from you if you were a seller....good to know that you would have no hesitation in breaking the law ...btw, unless you are selling a motor vehicle, boat or real estate there are NO reserves on ebay Australia.
