How do I know when an item has been received?
Jul 27, 2012 01:53 PM

Other than by directly contacting the buyer and asking, how do I know when an item I have sent has been received? Similarly, is there a way I can as a buyer mark an item as received so the seller knows? I have been searching all over for this info for several days and am none the wiser.
I'm sorry if this sounds idiotic - I'm usually quite intelligent but this has me stumped.

If you send registered mail you can check if it has been recieved.
To let the seller no you have the item, you leave them feedback -- A

Okay... so really there is no specific thing I can click to say "item received". I was just so sure I had seen something like that somewhere. Maybe I dreamed it?
Thanks

Sellers have to rely on the buyer to leave feedback, or to make contact (if something is wrong) in order for them to be sure that the item has been received.
I tend to think along the lines of ...no news is good news
As a buyer I dont always leave feedback. But I do sometimes email them to say item has arrived.
As a seller, i just wait and see if they leave feedback, if not, then i dont worry too much about it.
The secret to humour is a sense of humour

i have your concern long time ago and trying to find answers...
there is no way to find out if the item been received or not unless they leave you feedback OR they message you!
i used to contact the buyer and ask, however only 1/10 will reply.
Dont waste your time!!!!

If you have not heard from them to say they have received it and if they have not left feedback then you can assume they got it and are happy with it because they would be quick to complain if it had not arrived or not as described.

I'm going to make a suggestion. I am a buyer on ebay and I must admit I sometimes forget to leave feedback however when the seller ships my purchased items in a timely manner and sends me an email or includes a letter in my package saying something like "I have shipped your item(s) today. When you receive your item kindly notify me either by email or leaving positive feedback. If you have any concerns please don't hesitate to contact me."
For me this is an added personal touch that shows the seller believes in the products he/she is selling and cares about me as a customer. I am always more inclined to purchase from the seller again and I always remember to leave positive feedback for him/her.
Timely and polite responses to buyer questions always helps too when wanting buyers to leave positive feedback.
I know this won't work for all buyers, but it might decrease the number of buyers that don't notify you or leave feedback when they receive their item(s).

If you use the NEW Click and Send system then you can
elect to have tracking updates emailed to you so that when an item is delivered you will be advised. The only difference between me and a madman is that I am not mad.

The item I sent most recently I have tracking for so I know it's been delivered, but the buyer hasn't left feedback... which I will probably ask for, especially as it's that magic tenth feedback
Thank you all for your suggestions and info.

Do not ask for feedback...you may not like what you get.
Buyers do not like being asked for feeback as it is voluntary and some will prefer to leave no feedback than the leave less than positive remarks.

Yes mk, don't go asking for feedback.
If you want to message you can always ask if the buyer
was happy with your service but don't mention leaving feedback.

Hi, Maybe you are referring to tracking number, once post an item you have tracking number. You enter this for the buyer, you can also access this for your own tracking. Simply press on tracking number, this is linked directly to the website and shows where the item is at that time, whether received or in transit. Tracking cost extra but well worth it, buyer pays, helps both parties.

Half your luck agypsy.
It actually worked ages ago, then went to a goofy message that simply asked the buyer to ask the seller for tracking updates, then a week ago it seemed to be working again and now it's goofy message time again.
Why the goofy message to buyer can't read
'Simply copy this tracking number and go to www.auspost.com.au for a tracking update'
is beyond me. The only difference between me and a madman is that I am not mad.

As a buyer the quickest way to let a seller know you have received your item and all is well with it is to leave feedback and to email if something is wrong.
As a seller you don't really need to know if an item has arrived, you just need to know if it hasn't. If you don't hear from the buyer within four or five weeks you can pretty well assume that all is good or you would have heard.
Of course if you use click & send then you will be able to see on the AP site if it has been delivered or not. With the red & express satchels you will be abloe to see that it has been delivered to the nearest delivery centre. My problem lies in reconciling my gross habits with my net income.

As a buyer I would always leave feedback - to me it is rude not to. I don't know why it's optional (surely people want to know if a seller has a good reputation, not just if they don't???)
I won't ask for feedback, then, but I am disappointed. In this particular case the buyer got a very good item in excellent condition ("as new") and I expected to get positive feedback out of it.

We sent a $3000.00 Antique Clock to the U.S. about 4 months ago. No feedback, no email, no nothing from the buyer. Don't know if it even arrived, or if indeed it was in one piece. I have asked the question of this several times to the buyer, so far with no reply. The buyer did not want to pay for tracking or insurance, so I have no way of checking. So as far as I can see it arrived, it is in one piece, ticking away infront of its happy new owner!

Why is choosing not to leave feedback rude? A buyer who was a bit disapointed with their purchase but not enough to leave a neg so they leave none would be more inclined to leave a neg if they had to leave feedback. As a seller would you prefer that?
I use ebay to buy and sell things, not to collect and bestow coloured dots on computer screens. I leave feedback as, when and if I want and would probably leave ebay if they tried to compell me to leave feedback. My problem lies in reconciling my gross habits with my net income.

Yes, phorum_junkie, I would prefer that.
I think you misunderstand me - I want feedback itself, whatever it happens to be (positive or negative). I want to know how the buyer feels about the purchase.
Feedback is a response. I want a response. I'm not chasing gold stars and whatever status that may bring. I want information, pure and simple.
If the buyer is not happy for any reason I want to know. How else can I become a better seller?

Are you serious....you want feedback even if it is negative? Do you realise that too many negatives and you will be unable to sell at all.
If you are talking about this ID i will only take 1-2 negs and you may as well ditch the ID and start again.

If the buyer is not happy, there is a fair chance you will hear from them. If not, then assume they're happy. An email from them fits your requirements, but you said you wanted feedback.
I remember trying to get those magic feedback levels. Buy some C&S satchels if you need that 10.
I run about 75% feedback, which means 25% don't bother, even though eBay send them a reminder after about a month. If you're going my way, I'll go with you - Guess

I just find it odd, that if the buyer is happy, they don't choose to say so by leaving feedback (assume neutral or positive).

I used to feel that way as a seller when I first started out. But I think what some sellers may be forgetting is that a lot of buyer's may not have the access to a PC that a seller would have. Sellers need 24/7 access, but a buyer (like my daughter) who has a whale of a time buying things on line when she comes up to visit me,(she has no i/n at home) then off she goes home and never thinks of buying on line again till she's back on my pc!! The FB will come, and let's hope it is all good. don't take life too seriously.......it's not permanent
