The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) continues to issue warnings and recalls in relation to children’s sand products that may contain asbestos. Further information on this is available here: Customers warned of recalled children’s sand due to asbestos risks . We are reminding users of the need to remain vigilant around these products and recalls. Our product safety policy strictly prohibits the listing of items that are banned, recalled or don't meet safety regulations. Listings of such items will be removed, and a sellers account may be restricted or even suspended. If you are listing sand products, the ACCC has published guidance for businesses, including on testing, available here: Decorative and coloured sand products with asbestos - Guidance for business | ACCC Product Safety .  If you have purchased a recalled item, please stop using the product immediately, keep it out of reach of children and dispose of it safely. Additional information, including guidance on disposal from the Asbestos and Silica Safety and Eradication Agency, is available here: Advice for consumers with recalled sand products .   Further background: The Auckland University of Technology has conducted research into coloured sand products that contain asbestos. The Environmental Health Standing Committee has published advice stating that testing to date indicates there is a very low risk to human health from these recalled products. This remains an evolving area and you can monitor for further updates about any change in this advice here .

eBay Live shopping events enable sellers to showcase and offer items for sale to buyers through livestreaming. We want to provide clear information about the terms which apply when using eBay Live and the policies which we have in place to help ensure a safe and trusted experience on eBay Live for everyone. What you need to know Buyers and sellers using eBay Live must follow our rules and guidelines when using eBay Live. We recently reviewed and updated our eBay Live policy to provide more extensive guidance on what content, behaviour and items are allowed on eBay Live. Sellers using eBay Live should be aware of our terms for selling on eBay Live, including our eBay Live selling fees . While these were previously communicated to invited sellers directly, we have now amended the Fees and services section of our User Agreement to include this information. Consistent with our User Agreement , only users aged 18 and over are permitted to participate in eBay Live. From mid-August, we’re rolling out Extended Bidding to help create fairer auctions and better outcomes for buyers and sellers. Extended bidding keeps the final moments of an auction open while bidding is active, creating a clear and confident close for both buyers and sellers. What is Extended Bidding? If someone places a bid in the final minute of an auction, we'll automatically extend the auction by a short period. This gives other interested buyers time to respond, instead of relying on who can place the fastest last-second bid. The result is a fairer auction where the winning bid better reflects what an item is worth. How It Works When a bid is placed during the final minute of an auction, the remaining time will reset to 60 seconds until all bidding stops. The auction continues until no more bids are placed during the final minute, giving everyone who's actively bidding the opportunity to respond.  Why are we making this change? We are creating a level playing field that gives committed buyers a fair chance to place their best bid. Keep competition alive: Auctions end based on bidding activity, not a rigid clock, so competition can finish naturally. Stay in the action: When bidding heats up, buyers can respond instead of being outbid at the last second. Confidence at the close: The final moments of an auction are clear, visible, and decisive, so buyers and sellers understand exactly what’s happening as the auction ends. What this means for buyers Extended Bidding gives you more time to place your best bid when an auction is about to end. Instead of missing out because someone bid at the last second, you'll have the opportunity to respond if you're still interested.  What this means for sellers More time for active bidding can help your item reach its true market value. During our pilot, we saw stronger bidding activity and, in many cases, higher final sale prices on high-demand listings. Thank you for being a part of the eBay community. 

If you sell eligible energy-related products in the EU or the UK, you're required to provide energy labelling and product performance information in your listings. This includes products such as electrical appliances, light sources, smartphones and tablets, and tyres. Providing this information helps buyers make informed purchasing decisions and keeps your listings compliant. You can now upload your energy label and product information sheet as either PDF documents or images under the Item Disclosures section when creating or revising eligible listings. Previously, these documents could only be uploaded as images. What you need to do Upload your energy label and product information sheet in either PDF or image format Make sure PDF files are 10 MB or smaller Check any Good 'Til Cancelled listings to ensure they include the required energy labelling information, as older listings may need updating to remain compliant Include the correct energy efficiency information for eligible products If you manage listings through a third-party provider, please check with them directly on how to upload your energy label and product information sheet in PDF or image format As a reminder, these regulations may also apply to refurbished and secondhand products. We recently launched free selling on eBay.com.au for Australia-based sellers. If you've recently sold an item for free and wondered: When do I need to buy postage through eBay? Why can't I see the buyer’s address or upload my own tracking? Can I use my own prepaid satchels? Are labels on eBay more expensive? We're here to explain how to send your items when you sell for free and how buying labels on eBay helps simplify sending orders. What you need to know Since 1 June, when you sell for free, you must generally send your items with a label bought on eBay. There are some exceptions for low-value, small or bulky items. When you buy a label on eBay: You’ll access negotiated rates which are often cheaper than going to the carrier directly You can choose printer-free options if you don’t have a printer Tracking information will be automatically uploaded to your order Your order and tracking details will be connected and visible to both you and the buyer so your buyer will know the item is on its way. You’ll be protected for events outside your control such as delayed or lost deliveries For most orders, tracking information helps determine when your funds can be released. If you choose not to use a label purchased on eBay to send your items, it will generally take longer to receive your funds. If you want more options to send with the carrier of your choice or use prepaid satchels, you can choose to upgrade to a Pro plan. Our Pro Starter plan has no monthly fee, however a 13.4% Final value fee will apply to sales. Compare Pro plans Do I have to buy labels on eBay? If you sell for free, you'll generally need to buy your labels through eBay for eligible orders. There are some exceptions. If your item falls into one of these categories, you may be able to use an alternative method. These include:  Items sold for less than $20 Items sold for more than $5,000 Items that can be sent in an envelope, such as trading cards, stamps, postcards, greeting cards and similar items Heavy or bulky items where an eBay Label isn't available Orders where the buyer selected local pickup What happens if I don't buy labels on eBay? When you sell for free, you must send your items with a label bought on eBay, unless an exception applies . We'll support you with reminders and educational information about shipping requirements, however sellers who continue to send eligible orders outside of eBay may be moved to a Pro Starter plan, which provides shipping flexibility with no monthly cost, however you will pay Final value fees on sales. If you send an eligible order with a label bought elsewhere, here's what to expect: You won't be able to upload tracking. The option to manually add tracking or mark an item as sent is not available, even if you shipped with a fully tracked service. Tracking is automatically uploaded when you generate your label on eBay. Your funds will be held for up to 14 days. Since eBay can't see tracking activity for your shipment, your payment won't be released until the hold period ends , regardless of whether your buyer has already received the item. You won't be protected against delivery issues for that order. Seller protections for events like loss in transit are only available for orders shipped using a label bought on eBay. When you buy a label on eBay for orders up to $750, we'll take care of any reports that the item hasn't arrived, respond to the buyer and you won't be responsible for providing a refund. Why can't I see the buyer’s address or upload my own tracking? Tracking will be automatically uploaded when you generate your label on eBay, this means both you and the buyer can track every step of the journey on eBay. That's why manual tracking uploads are no longer available.  Important: If you purchase a tracked service at a post office or through another provider, you’ll no longer be able to manually upload tracking information, so you and your buyer will not see tracking activity on eBay. This means: Your item can't be marked as sent on eBay Your payment may be held for up to 14 days, even if your buyer has already received the parcel You won't be protected by eBay if there are any delivery issues for that order Remember, it is against our Member-to-member contact policy to exchange any personal information (including addresses) over messages. Are labels on eBay more expensive? We partner with Australia Post to offer discounted label rates compared to standard retail pricing, with savings of up to 35% on selected services. The cost of shipping will vary based on the item size, weight, destination and delivery service selected. We are working on adding more carriers and differentiated delivery options to eBay so you can access convenient, tracked shipping at competitive rates. How do I ensure buyers pay the right postage on my listing? Selecting 'calculated shipping' as your delivery option means that we will calculate the shipping cost based on your parcel's weight, dimensions and buyer's destination. Shipping is calculated using weight bands so it's important to be exact with your measurements to avoid under or overpaying for shipping. We recommend accurately estimating your parcel size and weight so that the buyer pays the right price for shipping and you aren't left out of pocket.  You can also choose flat rate postage if you want to set a cost for any buyer e.g. $10. This option may be right for you if your item fits in an Australia Post Flat Rate satchel or box (Extra Small, Small, Medium, Large or Extra Large).  Can I use my prepaid satchels? Shipping labels generally need to be purchased through eBay. If you regularly use prepaid satchels, or have better rates through your own carrier, a Pro plan may be a better fit for you and offers more flexibility in how you manage shipping. Our Pro Starter plan has no monthly cost and sellers pay 13.4% (incl. GST) final value fees. Compare our Pro plans . Can I still use Flat Rate Satchels?  When you buy your labels on eBay and choose to send with Australia Post, you’ll have a choice of Flat Rate or Parcel Post.   With Flat Rate , you pay a fixed price based on the size of the Australia Post satchel or box you use, rather than the weight of your item (up to 5kg). You'll need to use official Australia Post Flat Rate packaging , which you can buy from Australia Post.  With Parcel Post, the shipping cost is based on your parcel's weight, dimensions and destination. Shipping is calculated using weight bands: Up to 250g, 250g to 500g, 500g to 1kg, 1kg to 3kg, 3kg to 5kg so it’s important to be exact with your measurements when using Parcel Post to avoid under or overpaying for shipping. While Parcel Post can cost more than Flat Rate, it gives you the flexibility to choose your own packaging. Starting 1 July 2026, the European Union is introducing a new customs duty of €3 on imported items valued under €150. To help ensure a smooth buying and selling experience, eBay will continue to support cross-border trade into the EU. What this means for sellers  Due to these changes in EU customs requirements, Australia Post label purchases on eBay are temporarily unavailable for shipment to the EU.  Sellers should purchase their shipping label directly from their carrier to complete their shipment. For sellers using their own shipping methods, carriers may collect applicable import fees, including any customs duties, as part of the import process. Some carriers may begin requiring duties-prepaid shipping, also known as Delivered Duty Paid (DDP), into the EU for certain services or destinations. Sellers should check with their carrier regarding any new EU requirements, and review their pricing and postage arrangements, as appropriate. What this means for buyers For items shipped using a seller's own shipping method, carriers may collect applicable import fees as part of the import process. Depending on the shipping service used, buyers may be contacted by the carrier about applicable import fees before delivery. Delivery times may also be longer than usual during the initial implementation period as carriers and customs authorities adjust to the new requirements. What’s next? We will continue to monitor the implementation of the new EU requirements and provide updates as additional guidance becomes available. We're reminding sellers that small high-powered magnets that are separate or loose may be subject to a permanent ban in Australia when used in certain products. Effective since 2012, the ban aims to reduce the risk of serious injury, illness or death from these products. If swallowed, small magnets can lead to serious internal injuries and also pose a choking hazard to young children. Banned products must not be sold on eBay. Whether you're listing your first item or running a growing business, there are a few steps you can take for a smoother experience from listing to getting paid.  When listing your items  Make sure your listing is clear and accurate Select the postage service(s) with which you intend to send the item. If you are a Pro seller , you can choose to send your item using an untracked service.   If you are taking advantage of free selling , you can only choose to use an untracked service for low-value or lightweight items (i.e. Items under $20 or items that fit in an envelope).  Remember, when you choose an untracked service, you aren’t protected from Item Not Received claims. When posting your items Ensure you send the item using the same postage service the buyer selected.  If you aren’t buying labels on eBay, ensure you upload valid tracking.  For existing sellers, you need to ensure you have valid tracking uploaded for >95% of your orders, or your funds may be put on hold . Uploading tracking plays an important role in getting paid and creating a smooth selling experience. Tracking helps buyers follow their parcel’s journey, may protect you from some buyer claims and can help funds become available sooner once delivery is confirmed.  Please note that Untracked Letters and Freight shipments are not included in the 95% requirement and will not count against your tracking upload rate. If you have selected any other postage service for your listing, eBay will expect you to upload valid tracking information. If you use eBay Labels, this is uploaded automatically. If you are using your own postage provider, you will need to ensure you have valid tracking uploaded. For new sellers registered as individuals , you may experience transaction holds. We've introduced clear criteria for when you can receive your funds within 48 hours of the buyer paying. As you build your sales history and meet these criteria, you'll get paid faster.
