quick ebay question.

An item finished. No one bidded so I sent the buyer a message that I want it. The buyer wants my paypal ID to send me an invoice. My question is, do I have any protection if I do not get the item and can I dispute it on paypal like ebay? Is it safe without going thru ebay?

bob , you won't get protection unless it goes through eBay, When a buyer tells me they want something they've missed. I list it as BIN for them. If I were you I'd suggest doing it that way to the seller.

Yes

you really should get rid of this thread, ebay takes a pretty dim view of folk circumventing them to buy something as you're doing them out of fees.

Go to your paypal account, have a look at the resolution tab.

You are protected (assuming it's not a car)

Read the paypal site.

It tells you how to lodge a dispute for non-ebay purchases.

People were using paypal to buy stuff long before it was made mandatory on ebay.

Ebay does not protect you if you don't use paypal.

Paypal protects you regardless of where you bought from (with some exceptions like cars and stuff I think but not sure on that bit)

BTW ebay monitors everything.

In the early days I had a similar problem. The seller emailed me offering to sell it outside of ebay.

Next thing I knew I received an email from eBay reminding me this was against policy.

Ebay will be already aware of this thread. B-)

Ask seller to relist. Safest way, he may get a relist credit if sold anyway, depending on category.

I guess the difference is the seller is open to negative feedback through ebay and more likely to toe the line,

Ask the question on the Buyers boards.

Just ask if paypal protects buyers on non ebay purchases. Don't mention the rest of the story

If you pay with paypal you have buyer protection whether it is an ebay purchase or not.
