our local paper now gets delievered in a plastic bag thrown from a car onto the verge/driveway.

do you consider this littering?

junk mail should go in a letterbox, or bin. wait for them again next time and throw them back as he drives past.

They roll down from the neighbours house and lay in the middle of the road here. I might pick one up and bop their yapping dog. Then they can take it and clobber my crowing rooster

actually i noticed the other day that the local mob have given up on the 'free' weekly paper (unless they think i'm a bit dangerous like a certain part of dubbo) because they don't come anymore.. that means buying an extra 2 rolls a week.

Yes, I consider that littering. They should put it in/on the mailbox. Unless there is a 'no junk' mail sticker on the mailbox, then they shouldn't leave one at all.

I phoned them to ask them not to leave one on our lawn (had a no junk mail sticker) but they still left one.

They have stopped throwing them on the lawn here now.

Funny you should say that. I once lived in a house and had NO letterbox. After months of asking one of the local throw-in paper companies to stop, they didn't, so I left them on the footpath where they had landed. Then I collected them all, followed the older man who was delivering them, threw them into his car, and told him not to do it again or I would see that he lost his job. (I obviously was a horrible old woman back then!) It worked.

we have TWO burger joints up the road from us. (HJ's) and their customers continually throw empty drink containers and brown paper bags etc on to our verge...disgusting!...and someone told me they are building a Maccas as well. think it might be time to move.

I have a PO box for mail and a letterbox outside the flat i live in.

The letterbox has a -no junk mail sticker on it.

-dont get any loose junk mail.

The local newspaper is delivered twice a week.

Contains the latest-Hardley Normal-Harrassus Scaff and

other thick comics.

But need the local paper for the garage sale addresses.

PO box -no problem--open the door-get the mail

then push the big yellow envelope and other junk mail back inside..................Richo.

you might find the garage sales and other personals etc in the papers online version richo, it freed me up from local papers for good.

Macca's used to send out their own staff to pick up Macca's litter outside their grounds.. don't know if they still do.

Good call LL--still need the local rag--for the -hatched -matched and dispatched section.

Plus i noticed eldest grandie kicked a goal in an away game on the weekend.

But -the local paper is a way for some companies to by pass the no junk mail stickers....Richo.

I have an Australia Post Mail Only sign on my letterbox. If any other stuff is put in the letterbox, I send it back without a stamp, and ask them why, (I don't put my address of course). It usually stops fairly soon thereafter.

No, that would increase their circulation numbers, unless you knock off someone elses copy 🙂

It is annoying, especially when it has been raining before I can go out and get the paper. The paper always ends up wet despite the plastic bag, no one bothers to pick them up so it just sits there constantly being driven over and getting mashed into the driveway..

I think I preffered it when they were rolled up and wrapped in a cling film type of plastic wrap.. They didn't get wet then

I wouldn't consider it littering as a paper is usually something someone wants to read, litter is just empty wrappers, cans etc

I don't think newspapers are counted as junk mail..

I had a No Junk Mail sticker on my letterbox, but the junk mail (catalogues etc) just got dumped on the area behind the mailbox.(I live in a unit). No junk mail means they can't leave it in your letterbox but they get around it by just dumping a heap near the mailboxes... I consider that littering as you have specifically instructed them you don't want junk mail but it gets left anyway.. You think they would take the hint after the catalogues from last time were stll there.

The best junk mail is these "Focus" magazines that get handed out; they come in a large zip lock bag which I reuse... It's also handy when other people don't collect theirs so I relieve them of their magazines for rhe bag 🙂
