Help! How to escape from Facebook

OK, I only joined some years ago to stay in touch with people from around the world, who are involved in the same hobby. Recently, I was more involved in Australian politic discussions, which is not what my o/s friends are necessarily interested in. So I had a bright idea of opening another ID for the various political issues. But for this new ID facebook keeps demanding all sorts of info, and today they insist on giving them access to my address book with my Internet provider. So I decided to cancel that ID. But it is not working. When I go to the dialog box to cancel there is a request for password and the wobbly letters test. Then I get a message that the email/password combination is incorrect. There is no request for email! Wondering if I am putting in wrong password, I tried to do forgot password, but that is not working either.

I then went to Facebook forum and tried to ask how to cancel, and the message was blocked because it was considered "obscene" !!!!! Where is the "tearing my hair out" emoticon when you need it .

I closed a FB a/c a week or so ago, took a while to work out how to do it, had problems with the logging in bit too, but eventually it worked.

Sorry, can't remember the finer details.

I'm really not sure. I had a facebook account but I didn't really enjoy facebook so I closed the account or so I thought. Some time later a family member wanted me to go on facebook and look at holiday pics or something like that so I opened a new account but with a different email address.

The next time I logged in to facebook I somehow logged into the old account that I thought was closed. I think that sure, you can close your account but it will never really go away and you will still be able to log in to them.

Now I have two facebook accounts and I don't use either of them.

I just googled "remove facebook" and it took me straight to the facebook site which set out how to do it. Good luck.

i am not sure what you mean by that.

you were not creative with your details i suppose?

i am an ancient god there. i ignore their pleas to give them my personal informations like what city i live in etc.

my account is fine and sorta anonym

I deactivated mine a few years ago but then reactivated it, everything was still there when I reactivated. I did not go thru any rigmarole to deactivate.

I can not imagine why you should have to give you address book details that sounds wrong. This is what I found.

How do I deactivate my account?

Permanently delete your account:

Permanently deleting your account means you will not ever be able to reactivate or retrieve any of the content or information you've added. If you would like your account permanently deleted with no option for recovery, (it then says please contact us)

Note: Facebook does not use content associated with accounts that have been deactivated or deleted.

To deactivate your account:

Click the account menu at the top right of any Facebook page
Select Account Settings
Click Security in the left-hand column
Click Deactivate your account

When you deactivate your account, your timeline and all information associated with it disappears from Facebook immediately. People on Facebook will not be able to search for you or view any of your information.

If you’d like to come back to Facebook anytime after you’ve deactivated your account, you can reactivate your account by logging in with your email and password. Your timeline will be restored in its entirety (friends, photos, interests, etc.). Remember that you will need to have access to the login email address for your account in order to reactivate it.

I did not give any details. Now I have a message saying "just one step to complete your registration" and button to click CONFIRM. When i click on it I go straight to my old facebook under my name. The new one was registered under my middle name.

Yes, i am using a different email address. My main FB is in my main optusnet addy that I use for all my communications with friends etc. I also have addy for banking, and addys for different ebay accounts. The addy I used for the second account is gmail, so how in the hell do I get from my message in gmail to FB account with optusnet addy? I am coming to the stage of wanting to close both.

OK, I have logged out from my #1 account, then I logged into my #2 account, then I followed the above instructions. First problem was that there was no possibility to cancel, only to deactivate, but I though that will do. So after I selected a reason and wrote little note of explanation, and hit the CONFIRM button and got asked for a password, again, it rejected the password !!!!!!!!!!!!! That password logged me in and now it is "invalid"? I tried 1/2 dozen times.

I would suggest you reset your password first then if you want to totally delete the account you have to fill in a form according to this.

Should none of that work there is the little cog like icon top rh corner of FB page, click on that and then "report a problem" tell them you want to delete the account and see if they answer you (don't hold your breath though".

How do I permanently delete my account?

If you deactivate your account, your timeline disappears from the Facebook service immediately. People on Facebook won't be able to search for you, though some info, like messages you sent, may still be visible to others. We also save your timeline information (ex: friends, photos, interests, etc.) in case you want to come back.

If you don't think you'll use Facebook again, you can request to have your account permanently deleted. Please keep in mind that you won't be able to reactivate your account or retrieve anything you've added. Before you do this, you may want to download a copy of your info from Facebook. Then, if you'd like your accountpermanently deleted with no option for recovery, log into your account and fill out this form.

If you can't log in to your account, you'll need to reset your password first. To do this, go to www dot facebook dot com and click the Forgot your password? link below the password field. Once you’ve followed the instructions to reset your password and can log into your account, you can deactivate or delete your account using the steps outlined above.
