I'd think 5 years is a reasonable time.

I don't think the family of the deceased person will ever feel like its time for the widow/er to move on.
They will often feel like their loved one is being 'replaced' .
(That's been my experience)

My mum died when I was little. My dad remarried within 6 months. 😞 Far too soon for me as I hadn't had time to adjust to my mum being gone. Though everyone is different and it is up to each person. Just saying that for me, it was too soon.

My Father married within 9 months. I think men will remarry more quickly than women.

Men don't seem to cope being on ther own so well after being married.

Women might enjoy being their own person for awhile. Perhaps.

It would depend on individual circumstances. If a father is left with young children to care for, they may be looking for someone else sooner rather than later, especially if they are not the sort to cope with running a household and managing day to day life of their children

I know a relative who remarried fairly soon after his wife died and her family were outraged. The wife and had an affair and had left him for 6mths one time but returned. I was pleased he found someone else.

Often when someone partnered knows they have a terminal illness they tell their partner they want them to remarry and get on with their life.

Glenn McGrath married again 20 months after his beloved wife died.

I would say 12 months minimum bereavement period.
