...the issue has barely been raised in that newspaper - The Daily Telegraph. Two short articles have appeared in the paper (well hidden amongst minor news and only readable if you scroll behind the front page).

And even then, the article was less about the Pyne?Abbott story and more about NSW Premire OFarrells response to it.

And even THEN, they failed to include the the angrier comments made by O'Farrell directed at Pyne. Instead they published innocuous comments made by the NSW Opposition Leader about O'Farrell.

But on the other hand they have devoted page after (front) page for nearly 3 days to a story where Paul Barry teasingly tweets that Andrew Bolt should reveal his salary to the public.

One is newsworthy. One is not. Can you guess which one?

Well, one was news and may still be news . . . the other . . could be news, but I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for Bolt to reveal his salary.

We all know it's going to be incomparably more than any man could honestly earn for what he does.

Do you really care what anyones salary is and after all it is private, do we ask your salary package and do we care, NOT.

As far as the Gonski - apparently there is supposedly a funding black hole in the money allocated by labor so that amount may not be available, if this is correct it is another total "bleep" up by labor, AAAAHHH does it ever end ?

NS, the Coalition Policy costings were not fully costed and fully funded as claimed

...after being told that a Country can never get out of debt by going into debt there has been negotiations of increasing debt and even been talk now of removing the deficit cap all together.

Christopher Pyne didn't return calls to Vic and NSW .

Now wants to change the model (yet has rejected spending time to learn what the model is "He is too busy being our Education Minister" he said)

Promises and commitments made to Australian voters (including children) by MP's (one now our PM) ...seem to have had no basis in fact .

This is what and how the Children of Australia are learning the value of our Government and how the Government views them and their parents.Learning how those in respectable positions have gotten where they are and that honesty and respect means very little.

Blame has been passed around...it's the former Government, the media misreading words and also at another time claims that the process of signing not complete.

Lib State Premiers are furious .It doesn't reflect well on them.It doesn't reflect well on the respect their fellow MP's have for them and what they see as something necessary to improving their State's children's educational outcomes (by giving more assistance where it's needed...extra for those who are disadvantaged for one reason or another)

I don't know about others ...for me education and health care are two big issues I consider when I vote.

I give a Gonski and I and many others believe that both major parties were on a Unity Ticket with funding and model for certain periods of time .That it seems is not the truth however.

That is a huge Lie and on such an important issue .

_______________________________________________________________________________________________

Economy ‘running on empty’: PM’s adviser Newman

Phillip Coorey Chief political correspondent - It produces a bottom line, but does not an account for the way each policy has been costed, displaying the assumptions and the process in plain sight.

Showing that numbers add up without revealing how they were arrived at has little value.

We know that the PBO looked at most policies and the panel of experts looked at all of them. But three major policies were not submitted to the PBO for costing, and there are big questions over the assumptions behind each of them.

The pamphlet in question was created and circulated well before today’s announcement. To tell voters that "all Coalition policies are fully costed and fully funded" is inaccurate.

We rate the statement False.

Coalition Costings Table by politicalalert

________________________________________________________________________________________

Australian Agenda 17 November 2013.

Pyne: “Over the next four years, we will maintain the new school funding model and the budget that went with that in the forward estimates.”

_____________________________________________________________________

Coalition to ditch Gonski model and renegotiate school funding agreements, says Education Minister Christopher Pyne

Updated 17 minutes ago

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-11-26/pyne-adamant-gonski-school-funding-needs-overhaul2c-despite-st...

______________________________________________________________________

LAURA TINGLE Political editor

Government of ‘no surprises’ rewrites history

PUBLISHED: 26 NOV 2013

Two months after being sworn in, the Abbott government is now at war with conservative states, the Senate and parents across the country.

Not only is the political approach now being taken by the government on education calamitous, it risks a High Court challenge to any attempt to walk away from education funding agreements with the states, being blocked in the Senate, and could even be raising questions of sovereign risk.

On the political level, Christopher Pyne’s announcement on Tuesday that the government would dump the Gonski education funding model after 2014 is likely to leave voters feeling even more badly done by than they ever did about Julia Gillard and the carbon tax.

For behind all the well documented pledges about being on a “unity ticket” with Labor on education funding is a more fundamental political problem for Prime Minister Tony Abbott. That is that he promised he would lead a government of “no surprises”, a government that would rebuild voters’ faith in politics by honouring its commitments, and wash away the uncertainty of the last three years.

Instead, the move on education leaves schools uncertain about their funding beyond next year, and the government on yet another uncertain path in the Senate on a central policy issue. No wonder Labor is now confident to attack the government as being “not the government they said they would be”.

It now seems the Coalition neutralised a positive issue for Labor by lying about its intentions. This is the only possible conclusion you can draw from Mr Pyne’s attempts to rewrite the history of what he said before the election at a fiery Canberra press conference on Tuesday.

The government’s attempt to hide behind suggestions of a ‘’budget shortfall’’ left by Labor only makes the politics of this look even more tawdry.

Mr Pyne says Bill Shorten “cut $1.2 billion from the school funding envelope for the next four years”. In fact, the former government was unable to get the conservative governments in Western Australia, Queensland and the Northern Territory to agree to a new funding deal. It had allocated $1.2 billion to deals with these three jurisdictions in its August economic statement but they declined to sign up. Therefore, the money was no longer relevant by the time of the pre-election fiscal and economic outlook.

Joe Hockey made reference to this before the election. A majority of schools was covered by deals done with NSW, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT, as well as Catholic and independent schools.

Mr Pyne and Mr Abbott repeatedly committed to honouring funding agreements for at least four years. Mr Pyne has been working hard in the past few days to claim even some of these deals weren’t properly done. But he has struck push-back from those on the other end of the deals.

The bottom line is the Coalition is now saying it will only honour one year of the agreements reached with all of these school systems because, after that, it will have to spread the pot of money across the whole country.

read more:http://www.afr.com/Page/Uuid/c692ec04-5648-11e3-b1c8-465f9441c1e6

You are all surprised, Chris Pyne( a guy who as the countries helath minister endorsed a mayor whose family grew hydro and sold pills ) is telling porky pies?

If said family didn't have bikielinks I would have given the location of said hydro setup years ago.

They're just doing what all Conservative party governments do; cut funding to essential (public) services like health and education and give more money to the private sector.

This is congruent with Conservative party philosophy of providing more stimulus to the private sector and making it richer in the expectation that some of that wealth will "trickle down" to the less -advantaged in our community.

Of course this never works and will never work as the rich don't get rich by losing their money to leaks and "trickles".

No surprises for me. They're just doing what I always expected them to do.

at least the schools affiliated with churches are going to be OK. is this a form of religious bias ? preference for faith -based over secular schools has to be, imagine if the public system was bolstered and the private ignored would parents like that i wonder.

I remember reading a while back that there was a reluctance to support a funding model which may see private school fees raised .

Christopher Pyne has previously referred to their education policy as student first policy.

However over the past couple of days I have heard him say

"we are treating every student as a First Class student"

Either a Freudian slip or he really doesn't have a clue or doesn't want people to have much of a clue

..what the whole purpose of Gonski is .

First Class students ?

pfft

Pyne Denies the facts on Inequity in Education

Low income, Indigenous and remote area students can expect little support from a Coalition Government. According to the Coalition’s spokesman on education, Christopher Pyne, Australia does not have an equity problem regarding school outcomes despite overwhelming evidence that it is the major challenge facing Australian education.

Pyne went to extraordinary lengths on Lateline last week to deny that equity is an issue in Australian schools. He blatantly denied the facts and resorted to a level of dissembling that was surprising even for a politician. In an amazing contortion of language, he said that the lower school results for the bottom 10 per cent of students and the larger achievement gap in Australia than in many other countries is not an “equity problem” but a “student outcomes problem”.

The transcript of the interview reveals the extent of the dissembling and denial of the obvious:

http://www.sstuwa.org.au/news-main/sstuwa-articles/317-education-funding/8904-pyne-denies-the-facts-on-inequity-in-education
