Actually I disagree. I think it can work.

I read a study once that looked at the failure/success rate of open marriages. Obviously a lot depends on personality but it said that the more solid a relationship, the more likely the success. Basically so long as the number one priority is your primary partner and that partner feels totally secure then all is well. 😄

🙂 Been there, done that. No problem with it. The relationship didn't work out, not because of the open nature, but because he had serious issues stemming from his mother abandoning him (and his brothers) as a child and leaving them with their alcoholic abusive father who allowed the boys to be abused by 2 friends of his.

So I'd avoid people with abusive childhoods.

I personally think they may work if both people aren't invested in the realationship at the same time.

Why? I don't understand the significance of being single to this topic?

Why do we have to be mongamous (sp?). Why can't we be in love with more than one person?

🙂 I believe you can be in love with more than one person at a time, just as you can love more than one child at a time! You don't stop loving your first child because you have a second! Same as being in love with a partner, just because you love someone doesn't mean you can't love someone else.

But I don't think you need to even have feelings for other people in an open relationship, probably less complicated if you don't.

But it's perfectly normal to be attracted physically to other people when you are in a relationship. It doesn't mean you don't love each other. It's just human nature. And if you are both ok with those feelings being acted upon, so what? As long as everyone is open and honest about it, no one gets hurt.

Use condoms!

No way I made vows with my partner to remain faithful if it were an open relationship I wouldn't have married him because I would never agree to it. I don't see the point in getting married if one wants to sleep around anyway. By definition it wouldn't be marriage in the traditional sense.

I did see the lady on TV that claims its helpful to some marriage relationships but quite frankly there are no real figures to support that theory anyway.

To me that is the bottom line. BOTH ok. So often I've know of women who do it

for their partners' sake and felt very insecure in the process.

I often wonder if both partners are as enthusiastic or if one partner is just going along in order to keep the other partner in the relationship. It reminds me of sister wives and similar types of relationships where the male has many wives. The women never look very happy to me. They say they are happy but they always look kind of jealous and sad.

I'm single, so maybe my opinion won't count, but....

If my man was okay about me being with another man, I don't think that would be indicitive of true love. How could anyone feel loved by their partner if their partner was okay with that??

Hard to explain what I really mean, but if I thought he was with another woman, that would hurt - but for him to be okay with me being with another man would hurt more.

Make sense?
