Toshiba multifunction steam microwave

Has anyone here had or know anyone who's had any experience with this oven. I am thinking of buying one, but can't find any reviews on it.

Also has anyone here dealt with Kogan and if so did you find them reliable? Their price looks really good (maybe even 'too good to be true.'?) - Hardly Normals have the same model in their Factory Outlet for $1299 - but I don't know what the RRP is.

My Kogan 3 in one microwave was delivered yesterday, I got a great price too! But I haven't used it yet soI'm no real help there but I have dealt with Kogan quite a bit and never had any problems.

Thanks Mugssy.. The oven I'm looking at isn't actually a Kogan brand it's a Toshiba , but it helps a lot to know you have dealt with Kogan and found them trustworthy.

Thanks Happyroo. Good reports from several of my FB friends too. Nobody seems to know anything about the oven though and i can't find a single reailer - other than Kogan - who sells it. I think it's a very new model - I hope it's not a lemon that nobody wanted.

I'll try to remember to ask my dad about kogan's return policy tomorrow. I'm fairly sure he had to send something back a while ago. but can't remember how it turned out.

I have just read a brief specification on that particular device and technically some of the specs do not add up.

The olny way to achieve super heated steam is to have it under pressure, that can not be achieved in a convection/ microwave oven because the cooking cavity is vented. I seems like a bit of a scam it increase the pirice to me.

Convection/microwave is a great combination, I have had one for quite a few years now. The benefits of adding of steam to the cooking chamber eludes me.

The way a microwave works is by agitating water molecules (rubbing them together) to create heat.

On one site it is stated that the super heated steam is controlled from 30 degrees electronically, pretty wild claim in my opinion.

Super heated and 30 degrees are a contradiction feel.

Perhaps Monman can give his assessment too 🙂

Thanks Poddy, I appreciate you taking the time for me. I've had a Panasonic convection microwave for many years and it's been really good, but it's definitely reaching it's useby date, so I've been looking around. I liked the design of the Toshiba, it has a drop down door and a flat bed instead of a turntable. Several of the new ovens have a steam cooking function - it seems to be the latest 'thing',- but mainly I like the idea of steam for cleaning, it should make that job a lot easier. if I buy it from Kogn it will be about the same price (including delivery) as a new Sharp or Panasonic from Retrovision.

Monman, I'd love to have the benefit of your expertise also. (pretty please.)

TGSE, on further investigation the steam that they mention if enclosed in a sheath around the cooking chamber so it is not in the cooking chamber at all

That in fact makes even less sense. Why would you heat water in an enclosure and then user the heat that it radiates for cooking.

My guess is that it is something to raise the price 🙂

Steam in the cooking chamber to aid cleaning is a great idea, I have done that for years. just put a corningware or pirex dish in the microwave wit water in it and bring it to the boil for 5 minutes and then ley the oven cool down, makes the cleaning easy 🙂

ele, if you cannot find it on the Toshiba website that would ring alarm bells for me.....it sounds like a 7 day wonder that is already superseded.

Have you tried the Choice website?

While i haven't used a steam oven yet from what I read they are the best way to cook, retain moisture and most of all retain the nutritional value of the food. We al know that micowaves are dangerous, kill nurition and bad for our health. However they are very convenient. Therefore to be a combined microwave, convection and steam seems an ideal combination.

i sincerely hope you didn't buy this,at least,not from toshiba. ask katydidthat about her countertop oven instead,it's much better,aand just buy a micro,and a steamer for it.

there are scary things in the way of gadgets out there,this in one of them,from MY POV.

Golly! a blast from the past lol

In case anyone's interested, I haven't bought my new microwave yet - I'm still dithering. I still haven't been able to find any reviews on the Toshiba - Ive recently posted a query on whirlpooll but no-one there has so far been able to help me either - and I am now also looking at the Whirlpool 369sl. Neither of them is cheap- the Whirlpool is $599 and the Toshiba about 845 (including delievery) - so I'm not in a hurry to make my mind up.

From what I can gather the steam function is an additional feature to aid with defrosting and reheating to stop food drying out as much as it is for steaming food.

I was reading the title as malfunctioning Toshiba 😄

Thanks Longlegs. I have actually downloaded a brochure from them. what is frustrating me is that I can't find one single review - good or bad - from anybody who has ever bought one.

One of the things I like about the Toshiba is that it comes with an exceptionally large and comprehensive cookbook. the Whirlpool on the other hand has such a meagre one that most reviewers say they ended up buying a self published cookbook written specifically for the Whirlpool from a woman in New Zealand. Other complaintsabout the Whirlpool were thatafter sales service was not good, it was very hard to get spare parts and advertised extra gadgets could not be bought in Australia.

I am also interested in this oven. I did contact via email, australianhomeappliances.com.au but they never replied! What I think is good too is you get a two year warrranty. The Sharp SuperSteam is only 1 year for example and that oven is very expensive, best price of around $1000.

I would really like to know about the general steaming mode of the Toshiba, as some of the reviews of the Sharps say it's pretty weak.

Samsung now have this, https://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/home-appliances/microwave-oven/convection-microwave-oven/MC324GAKCBB/SA, but this does not have superheated steam, or the IR sensors, the latter sound particularly cool to me.
