Even we (you, I and other posters) are humanly interacting using the technology. BUT when we are physically in the vicinity of a human being, sadly the art of conversation appears to be derelict. DEB

At a cafe the other day and next to us was a table of about 9 teenagers, they were doing exactly that - phones out, heads down. I have also been at dinners where at least half of the adults are doing exactly the same, I always wonder what is so important that they can't put the phone away for a couple of hours. Makes me ponder what will happen to languages - will it all be lol, omg, you get the drift.

I just feel so insulted when someone is texting at the table. It's like, is my company so boring you have to "talk" to someone else?

yep, so many times i see group of teen and even people in their 20s sitting together but all on their phones.

I cant stand the phones and ipods at the dinner table, so rude.

I have to admit on very rare occasions I've had to have my phone out at dinners or functions because I was awaiting an urgent call, usually only if someone was in hospital or something. I always have it on silent though, just nearby so the vibrations can alert me and I can excuse myself to go answer it.

Hawk!

Last Sunday I was sitting in a cafe with OH, at the table next to us were a trio of ppl.

The young woman was constantly answering the demand of her phone, it was constantly tweeting or ringing, lol.

It was quite interesting to watch how she segued in and out of the conversation at the table.

one of the guys in our club gets constant TXTs from his wife, when we stop for moring tea, lunch or even fuel he has a dozen missed txts and when he replies to one its non stop until we start riding again, at first it was funny, but its dam right anoying now.

I still prefer to talk to the person and get the conversation or arangements done rather than a constant back and forth

I too think it is rude to have phones etc at the dinner table........doesnt happen in our house as there is only hubby and me, but when we go out for a meal, and people do it, I could get it and hit them over the head with it.

I also hate it when food shopping, they stop in the middle of the isle to have a chat, they dont care about anyone else.

When I was in the US, people didnt use their phones as they do here..........it has become an addiction in Aust.

Bring back the days of actually talking to someone in person.

They why it costs so much more here, they dont have to be compeditive to attract uesers to use the service, and TXTs are a gold mine to a telco charging the same for a few bytes of info at the same rate as a minute of voice.

We recently had a family dinner at a restaurant. hubby's

birthday. 10 of us. Should have seen the look on everyone's

faces when they were told to turn off their mobiles, and put

them in the bag provided, and they would get them back

when the night was over! Priceless

At the movies when movie is running..peopke checking and replying to texts and FB and thier phone keeps lighting up is extremely annoying.I sat by one girl doing that then she would whisper to her boyfriend and show him the phone screen.

Using mobiles when dining with others is rude.

Yeh, i told a couple off in the movies last time i went who were doing that.

I said "What did you pay to come to the movies for if you cant stop looking at your phone. Get out or turn it off"

Apps like whatsapp are good to send texts and photos over a wifi connection instead of paying your phone provider so many cents for each one.
Especially good for oseas sms & mms doesnt cost 50-75c for each one.
