Has anybody experienced anything like this? Today I stopped at the supermarket and spent $50, then I filled my tank - $75, and when I got home I bought something on line for $50 from the USA and the CC declined the payment. As soon as the message flashed on the screen, there was an automated call from the bank asking me authenticate my last 3 purchases. Fine, I did that, but when went back and tried to pay the payment was again rejected. So i canceled the transaction, started from scratch and in the end had to use my other card, which I normally only use for items for my business. I did check the account for the declined CC, and there does not look anything amiss, and the money available could buy me nice small luxury car. So what on earth is the bank doing? Are they going to be stopping people to spend less than $200 in one day?

I have had calls from my banks re oseas transactions. One, I purchased something online in the UK for about $250AU. I confirmed it was me and it went through.
The other time I transferred $100 online from Aus bank ac to my own NZ bank account and my bank here called about that. It went through after the call.

Easiest way to find out what is going on is to ring the bank. Our bank usually rings us if they think something is not right.

I had calls before as well, but they only asked to confirm it is OK, they did not stop the payment.

And it was only $50!

If I purchase online internationally through my CC, a little box comes up asking me to put in a password before it goes through. The bank did pick up too many transactions at Australia post once and called me to check if they were legitimate.

Banks used to flag an international purchase if it was fishy looking, like you used the card locally and there was not enough time to fly to wherever the purchase was tried, but I think that should be fixed in this day and age.

I had card frozen when I got my newest laptop and tried to purchase a game for it.

I rang the bank and told them it was me. Problem fixed.

It could be the place you were trying to purchase from, games sites, adult online stores, etc that looks suspicious.

I think the banks/cc companies still monitor international transactions over a certain $ value.

The banks request that their customers inform them if they are travelling overseas to let them know the dates they will be away and what countries they will be visiting.

There is still lots of credit card fraud going on.The banks have to do what they can to try and prevent that. It is the bank that repays the customer who has lost money if they have been subjected to online fraud, as long as the customer didn't do anything to compromise the security of their account/card.

My daughter was a victim of online fraud, the scamsters took at $29.95US monthly for 2 months before she noticed. The bank repaid her.

She has recently beena victim of ATM fraud overseas, she was in Rome, and a few days later after she arrived in England, 2 largish ATM withdrawals were made from her account from a ATM in Rome.
