Totally of my own doing; it was very old and I knew it was on its last legs for a long time. I started sporadically popping in The Good Guys and Hardly Normal about year ago. But usually, after dealing for 20 minutes with sales people who would be hovering around and not listening to what I want, I would just leave. End of last year my washing machine stopped working properly, and so I went to get new one knowing exactly the one I want, and I was quite determined to get both washer & fridge , but in the end after being dragged to totally different washers than what I wanted, and being told that I would be stupid not to get extended warranty, I bought only washer.

Well, today morning I noticed my fridge is not very cold. When I got home in the afternoon there was a strange smell, and the fridge was somewhat hot inside. At least it did not catch fire. So I really did not have much choice but to buy new one. I managed to sneak into the fridge section without being noticed, and was able to have a good look around without anybody trying to sell me every fridge I touch. So all was going well, except you actually need the salesperson to buy the thing. I tried to stand in middle of the store, well in view, looking lost , I tried to wave at some staff standing near the microwaves, then finally I thought I got somebody, but he was serving so he called for another member of the team. Finally, somebody came I pointed at the fridge I wanted, and said 'I will have this one, thanks, but I need the doors to open the other way'. That apparently would be another $60 and take a week! I asked if I can switch the doors myself, but was told that it has to be done professional, and it takes an hour! Bye bye.

Got the same fridge across the road and yes it comes with instructions how to flip the doors. Hope this one lasts me also 15 years. 🙂

when we got a new frisge, we found that our electricity bills went down quite a bit, all the newer appliances seem to use less power, which is great!

Before buying an extended warranty, always ask the supplier to list what it gives you over and above your automatic consumer guarantees.

I never buy extended warranty; most appliances either break down pretty quickly, well within the norml warranty peiod, or they last for a long time, well beyond the extended warranty. 🙂

Retailers sometimes offer to sell you an extended warranty or care package to extend the length of time of the manufacturer’s warranty. Some may tell you that an extended warranty provides extra protections you wouldn’t usually get. This isn’t necessarily true, as you automatically have cosumer guarantee that suppliers must comply with, regardless of what they say or any warranties they offer.

You don’t have to buy an extended warranty – it is optional

Suppliers risk breaching the law if they:

put undue pressure on you or use unfair tactics to get you to buy an extended warranty

mislead you into paying for the rights that you already have under the consumer guarantees.

I often wish that about my fridge Boris but in truth it has worked well for well over a decade. Possibly 15 years.

It is just really lousy space wise and can't be adjusted well. The vegie drawer screeches and cracks and has always frozen the carrots for some reason. It doesn't like carrots. The freezer is not bad.

I wish for my fridge to die quietly too, I hate it, have since the day it was plugged in. It was a quick purchase to replace the fridge that was fine one day, dead the next. And now after years of Hubs asking for a new one, I've finally found a model I really really like and it only comes in the brushed steel finish but with kiddies in the house, i want to stick with white.

Was it Good Guys where you were ignored OP?? Every time I go in there with an actual purchase in mind, I'm completely ignored, like they can tell when I'm just browsing and flock to me. LOL.

Go for the brushed steel Lis. Just spray it with some Windex and clean with a paper towel when it starts to look grotty.

You can get special stainless steel wipes but it's not necessary.

Those steel wipes are useless.
I'm just not a fan of the steel fridge, it's going to look ridiculous standing next to my white washing machine, LOL. Also, any dents show up really bad, my white one has a couple of dings in it, but you can't really see them if you don't know where to look. My nephew has dented up the front of Mugs fridge, it's quite noticeable.

I hate those extended warranties too, when I bought a five year one I thought it would start after the original ware try ran out, nope it starts the day you buy the appliance. To me that's not a five year warranty it's 3 years!
