What have you found lately

Yesterday I found a Bic four colour biro as I alighted the bus
It was all dirty due to recent rain but all four colours are working
A couple of days before I found a brand new Bic lighter
I often find two dollar coins but it's only been five and ten cent pieces for ages now
Last significant find was a Kelvin Cline purse with over six dollars in change
I handed it into the local police station when it eventually opened and was rewarded with twenty dollars by the owner
I was very tempted to buy food with the coins because I was broke but went to Vinnie's instead for some assistance
I've been judged by some people for going to Vinnie's with them stating that they could never do that but I'd rather eat than hold onto some false pride

My washing machine is like an ATM - always finding change.

And the odd tissue of course.

I was so fed up with all the money found in the washing machine that I decided it was Finders Keepers.

The family was told that whoever did the washing could keep the money from that wash load.....I knew I was safe as nobody but me ever entered the laundry. Four months later I bought a gigantic ham for Christmas with the proceeds of the washing machine.

I found a senior citz, ladies purse a few months ago. All the cards, pension ID, drivers licence and a couple of hundred dollars. The ladies residential address was amongst the ID, so thinking she would be having kittens with worry, I drove to her adress immediately and delivered it back to her.

The old cow hardly even thanked me. I didnt expect a reward or a medal, but a smile and word of thanks would have been nice.

A couple of weeks ago I was visiting Coles late at night. The place was deserted, but on the way back to the car I found 3 crisp ten dollar notes. I thought all my christmases had come at once

Untill the kids taxed them from me.............

Today I was digging a trench with a skid steer loader for an NBN connection on a house we have purchased. I unearthed a pile of buried building waste and in amongst the rubble and pipe was a nest of baby brown snakes.........

Third time I have turned up a nest of baby snakes with the loader.

Snakes are not the worst thing I have found with the loader though..... A couple of years ago I was digging post hole for a fence at a large winery. The hole borer got stuck on what felt like a tree root, so I reversed it and then gave it the works hoping to break the root. It gave a bit but then jammed again, so I pulled the borer out of the ground. Wrapped around the spirals was a huge damaged three phase power cable that was the main line to run the winery. I gingerly exited the loader and we called an electrician.

Turns out the borer stripped the insulation from the cables and the Pos & Neg wires touched, blowing the fuse on the stobie pole. Had one of the live cables touched the borer before the other wire, I would have been toast. Still scares the heII out of me just thinking about it.

Did you dial before you dug?
Not having a go because I've known of infrastructure to have been present when it was stated as being safe
I have a five and a half foot Copperhead that lives in my house and we just keep away from each other
Well she keeps away from me after our encounter in the hallway one hot summer's night
Back in the seventies when I lived at home in Golden Grove
My sister and I were at Myer TTP I think mum was buying a coat or getting us coats and I was bored s'less
For some unknown reason I stuck my hand in the pocket of a big Camel hair coat and pulled out a twenty dollar note
I was standing staring at it in disbelief when mum snatched it out of my hand
I still like to remind her of that

Probably belonged to the camel.

I wish I was finding things. I've got the opposite problem, searching around for stuff I know I've got... somewhere but it's not where I thought it was.

So far, I am missing my Tefal pressure cooker recipe book & instructions, a prescription and several photos that are on my computer somewhere but not in the folder I expected. I could go on.

I don't want to find anyone else's stuff but I wish I could find my own.

Don't you just love it when you put things away in a "safe place" - it's generally so safe that I can't find it again when I want the item!

I have a muzzle loading shot gun with gold inlay that I've hidden so well I haven't seen it for years

The power cable was several hundred metres inside a private property and a private line so not covered by dial before you dig, but that reminds me of another experience with the loader.

I was digging a dam close to the boundry of my farm. It was all going very nicely when the penny dropped that there was poles on the boundry indicating some kind of fibre optic cable there some-where. I stopped and " dialed before I dug " any further. The CS guy got a bit excited and suggested I stop digging until a tech guy came out and did a field check.

Turns out the cable was only a couple of metres from where I was digging and was on the edge of my dam wall. It was the main line between two major towns with banks, hospitals, large schools etc. reliant on the line. Had I cut it I would have been up for hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages......

On another occasion I had to do several hundred metres of retaining walls at an old school. We checked the schools records of pipes etc.before digging, but the charts only went back around twenty years. Every ten metres or so we found an old water pipe or remains of septic systems. Tradies had just added and added stuff over the years with very little recorded.

On another occasion I quoted a landscaping job based on the nice loamy soils to be seen on the site. As soon as I dug in to level the site, I struck sheet rock.

There is that much stuff hidden under ground, that it was getting scary putting the loader into a job and was one of the reasons I gave building and landscaping away and went ebaying instead.
