A faithful dog whose owner died months ago still turns up everyday at her church hoping she will return.

Tommy, a 12-year-old German shepherd, has become a local fixture at the Santa Maria Assunta church in Puglia, southern Italy, the Ill Messaggero newspaper reports.

Every afternoon at 5pm when the church bells chime Tommy heads to the church, as he did with his owner, and goes and lies down at the altar.

I got that movie out at the video store last week. Obviously felt braver at the store than at home - took it back unwatched, knew it would make me bawl like a baby.

there is an episode like this on Futurama where Fry's dog waits for him and even that makes me cry . i am a big sooky when it comes to animals.

Don't think I'll watch that movie either, I cried watching Grey Friar's Bobby as a child and I've only got worse with age. 😞

I saw it too Icy, and it was sad, but also quite lovely. The dog goes to the church at the same time everyday just for the sermon, then toddles off again. Apparently he is being fed and watered and seems okay. It is just amazing the loyalty and the love an animal shares and feels with it's owner. :-D:-x:_|:-)

ok ok don't everyone get jealous pls...

I always cry buckets with sad animal movies, but I feel good afterwards. I never watched Red Dog but I came across the book and read it in my lunch hour at work over a cpl of days. At the end I came out of the lunch room all teary-eyed and runny nose. Everyone got all concerned about me. Which was touching and I was moved all over again.

I remember watching Benji when I was younger and it was so sad....loved that little dog. I also watched Hachi, that was one of the saddest movies I have seen, broke my heart. Animal movies always get to me. One of the great one's was called My dog Skip...great movie.

Hearing all the comments about Hachi, I am so glad I took it back unwatched! I am a huge blubberer with sad animal movies. Even "human" movies where it looks like something's going to happen to the animal I can be found hollering at the TV "WHERE'S THE DOG? SOMEBODY SAVE THE DOG!!! (or cat/bear/horse/whatever).

That's what we call our two pet piggies. (Poppy Porkchops and Truffles). We have a funny little split level cottage which has a "downstairs" room, which is just four steps down from our kitchen. Our pigs live in there at nighttime. There is a gate across the kitchen door to stop them charging through the house (although sometimes Poppy manages to open the gate and charge through the house anyway).

When I am preparing the dogs and the pigs' dinner at night, they stand on the stairs and poke their noses through the holes in the gate and start telling us how hungry they are and what on earth has taken us so long to feed them. A hungry talking pig is a VERY noisy pig and two is noisier still. They sound exactly like... Monsters in the Dungeon!

I'm so glad they leave food & water for the dog, He deserves to be looked after, poor thing. It would be nicer if someone gave him a new home though
