Check Your Dockets - Coles Supermarket

Interesting thing, not sure if this has happened to others........but

A friend of mine called me to see if I was home as she wanted to use my scales (being an eBay seller) I know mine are accurate as I weigh things all day.

I am going to upload the docket to show shortly but to cut a long story short she purchased 4 mandarins and the weight on the docket showed over a kilo. When I weighed them they weighed 427 grams.

The only reason she wanted to check is because last week at another Coles supermarket she purchased a bag of mushrooms, checked the docket when she left and it said she purchase 1.3 kilos. She went back to the counter and asked them to weigh and check and the girl at the tobacco counter refunded her in full without checking which leads me to believe they know about this glitch.

I phoned ACA as it is probably worth investigating. There were other things that she was overcharged with last week I just can't remember what they were right now. I also called the supermarket and told them and they said to just come back and bring your docket, no apology or anything, smells fishy to me as though this happens frequently.

Can anyone figure out how this can happen? I weighed the bananas and capsicums which were on the same docket and correct????

Well, if a cashier added a little body weight to the scales that might have caused it.

there is a government organisation that comes around to the supermarket where I work, and he checks all the scales to see if they are calibrated properly and then will weigh some of the packaged produce to see if its labelled correctly.

I can't remember what the name of the organisation is though! Maybe australian standards?

I spoke to a family member who works in management at a Coles Supermarket.

They said they could not say why the scales weighed wrong........they are checked weekly by a team member.....and ever 6 months they are re-certified by a private company.

Could the problem have been that maybe your friend used a self serve check out incorrectly.

They also said your friend would have been refunded in full for the mushrooms...........and then the mushrooms would have been re weighed.......and then she would have paid for them again.

The thing is the scales worked correctly on the other items.

They also said your friend would have been refunded in full for the mushrooms...........and then the mushrooms would have been re weighed.......and then she would have paid for them again.

I'm positive my friend is telling the truth. I just spoke to someone else who said the same thing, 3 small tomatoes weighed in at over a kilo on their docket.

I am saying............of course she would have been refunded in full for the mushrooms.........as she had been over charged.................but then..........the mushrooms should have been re-weighed and paid for at the correct weight by your friend.

Dont supermarkets have a policy that you get it for free if you're overcharged?

The scales at the checkouts are checked daily where I work, and the deli scales are checked at least once a day, usually twice.

As for the refund, unless thier own company policy states otherwise they don't have to refund in full

I've had full refunds from Coles when overcharged. I'm pretty sure its their policy.

Full refunds are only if the shelf price is scanning incorrect................if you buy more than one of the product you would get the first one free.........and then have to pay for the others at the lower price.

This is according to the Scanning Code of Practice.

Yeah, thats the policy I was thinking of. Maybe they just used their discretion to apply the same policy despite the fact that it wasnt technically scanned?

if they over charge the policy is a full refund and item for free

that maybe there policy but our local s/m, doesn't do that they used to but not now

and at ours you always have to watch items as they are being scanned as in when something is on special and they charge you full price
