Because with millions of active listings worldwide, they can't police them all. Even if they employed people to only look after listings, they could never check them all.

You could try reporting the listings, but it's an each way bet if eBay will do anything about it. If you have bought one of these disks, then open a dispute for item not as described. Follow any instructions that may appear in the dispute, like having to return the item (at the seller's expense). If the option appears to escalate to a claim (ask eBay to step in and help), then accept that option. You should get a refund pretty quickly after that.

eBay doesn't allow it.

But proving it's counterfeit is impossible without having it in hand.

If am afraid that ebay has an " if we can avoid it, we will" approach to counterfeiting.

Much of this is due to the factors already mentioned.

That is until powerful forces come into play.

Think French designer handbags.

I face similar issues wih the prints and posters I sell. I regularly trawl through ebay looking for non original prints, excluding China for obvious reasons.

A few years ago, enterprising persons began making high quality digital copies of the posters made for, what I call, the world's biggest cult band, initials PJ.The only differences were in the dimensions. My supplier, who produced these and is also the copyright holder, got nowhere with eBay. So he contacted the bands management. The wonders of a cease and desist order from a leading US law firm. All unauthorised copies were removed within 24 hours.

Sometimes that rarity is only available in duplicated form. But the man thing is that sellers must always state it the item is not a properly pressed, officially released DVD or CD. Some sellers who sell with items supplied by an external source have no idea that the dvd's that are being supplied are infact bootlegged or as you say counterfeit copies. This ends up being a hassle for both buyer and the unknowing seller.

The question should be "why does eBay allow counterfeit products of all types to be sold on this site"

Reality is that it is impossible to stamp out.

Unless you are the holder of the patent or copyright then there is no use compaining as eBay will only act on "official" complaints, not those by members.

Unfortunately counterfeit DVDs are back at eBay again, a number of new sellers have bargains that are just too good to be true.

Back in 2013 a group in Sydney were caught counterfeiting DVDs and received jail sentences which saw them released just last month. They were said to have counterfeited 1.2 million DVDs and sold 65000 DVDs on eBay for $1.6 Million (That's 65000 sales genuine sellers missed out on).

Hard to believe eBay did not know about this. Don't expect eBay to do anything, its not in their interest, less sales, less revenue. Report any counterfeit DVDs to the Federal Police or The Australian Screen Association who were instrumental in shutting down the above gang.
