I've been on ebay since 2003 and sellers were definitely able to leave buyers negative feedback for quite a while. Changed some time ago.

After a return had been settled by eBay and PayPal issued a refund in my favour, I did leave a negative feedback for my Seller which I felt was warranted. It was very amicable and straight to the point. The feedback was left yesterday but today I can not see my negative feedback on the Sellers page at all. How is this possible without my mutual consent to have the feedback removed?

Did the feedback mention the dispute/having to get eBay to step in ?

Or

Was the seller registered in China?

The Seller is REMOVED and their page says registered in Australia. However with that said.... I have previously purchased items before from so called Australian registered Sellers and the item has come from Pakistan. Yes, eBay did have to step in at the end of this.

I know eBay needed to step in, but was that mentioned in your feedback?

I'm not saying it's right, but *if* that was mentioned in the feedback then eBay will remove the feedback if the seller requests

I didn't mention eBay but I did mention that PayPal had to issue the refund. I guess that's the same thing, right? I did not realize that if this was mentioned, eBay could remove the feedback.

There's the problem, you mentioned a case in the feedback like bear has been saying.

It's against the rules to mention any disputes in feedback and eBay removes it pronto.

If a dispute is settled with the result in the buyers favour, I cannot see the problem with mentioning that in the feedback. After all, it was proven to be a valid complaint by the buyer, under Ebay's own rules, yet Ebay appear as though they are protecting their sellers and assisting to make their feedback smell like roses, when clearly it could smell of disputes. Potential customers could then be mislead into purchasing, when they may otherwise would not, if the feedback was not tampered with. Just my take on it anyway.

The number of buyers I've dealt with that are guilty of fraud is a lot more than that.

I don't think bad behaviour is exclusive to 'buyer' or 'seller', or more likely from one than the other. Everyone (whether they are a buyer, seller, or both), is a person at the end of the day (presumably at the beginning, as well. Unless werewolves are real, but I digress), and it's an unethical, dishonest, person-thing to do (commit fraud). Dishonest people both buy and sell. If dishonest people tend toward one (buying / selling) more than the other, the only people who would really have data on that is eBay, since they would have numbers and percentages (personal experiences of one person do not a statistical fact or probability make).

This isn't about who does what, anyway, but what gets reflected in feedback, and the simple fact is that bad buying behaviour can not be reflected in a member's feedback, or if it is, it's definitely removable whether disputes were mentioned or not, not to mention the person who left it can be in trouble.

It's futile to argue about dishonest buyers versus dishonest sellers. Fact is some people are dishonest and some aren't. Doesn't matter whether they're buyers or sellers; dishonest people will find a way to rort the system.

However, it is undoubtedly true the odds are stacked against sellers these days. Ebay decide the majority of disputes in favour of buyers. When I questioned a decision I was told as ebay are not physically in possession of the item they cannot determine the relative merits of whether it is as described ... which begs the question, how do they decide then, other than arbitrarily in favour of the buyer.

It seems very odd to say they are not in a position to know the facts but make a decision regardless based on nothing more than an unofficial policy favouring one side against the other.

I have absolutely no qualms when I buy on ebay because I know if I am messed around I will have plenty of recourse but selling is another matter. You are almost tempted to write a dissertation on every item covering every continguency and even then not being sure if there will be problems.

It's all about enhancing the buying experience but seems to me like ebay focus on the mole-hills while ignoring the mountains. Most buyers are more concerned about things like misrepresenting item location and those appalling multiple choice listings where the search brings up the .99c widget and the drop-down menu shows the much higher cost of the item you actually want.
