Bid programs are allowed and I don't think users are any more advantageous with them. It's not about who bids last but who bids the most $$.

I don't use a sniping program myself, but I also don't cry foul when someone does.

I do my own sniping and can hold my own with any auto bidding program.

Buyers often can't get to a computer within days of an auction finishing.

So instead of placing another bid on top of ones own winning bid, they prefer to have a program auto bid on their behalf.

Once bitten, twice shy. If you were beaten by a snipe program, try Gixen as mentioned and see if you can beat someone else! Of course, if two people bid in the last second, the highest bid amount wins.

Snipe programs are good for both buyers and sellers as it encourages people to bid their maximum, instead of less-than-maximum nibble bids.

the3coopers once posted a link to a cool eBay guide written by someone, the link to which I don't have, but I have always remembered two lines from it, succinctly explaining why snipers will often win against those who have been bidding in increments or lower than they're actually prepared to pay throughout the auction.

remember there can only be ONE bidder, whether they bid in the first hour or last of the auction...the bidder who BIDS THE MOST, wins.

if you are being beaten at the last minute it is because you bid too low...nothing to do with the timing.

It does not matter when you bid, the highest bid always wins. You can bid as soon as the auction starts, or as it is finishing...if your bid is the highest you will win.

Soul, I think what you are thinking of is the scenario of 2 bids of the same amount in the last seconds of the auction. The first bid placed will win in this case.

If it wasn't legal then a lot of us would have been hauled off to jail by now;-)

I presume you meant were they allowed by ebay rather than by the judicial system.

Many people manually snipe, do you think that shouldn't be allowed either?

Bottom line is the highest bid wins, if you were prepared to pay more then you should have increased your proxy bid limit, if you weren't prepared to pay more then somebody else You would have lost regardless of when the higher bid was placed.

That's what I meant. If two people both bid in the last second, it's the highest of the two that will win.
