well then you need to pay by PayMate.

PayPal is only one of the three safe payment methods that a seller has to offer.

They don't have to accpet paypal, they can choose any of the three they like.

So, what is written in the listing? Do they say they take PayPal? if they do, then you have a course of action, but if they say they only take PayMate, then that's what you agreed to.

just checked, listing clearly says Paymate, cash on pick up or bankl deposit.

Before you consider bank deposit, remember that you have no buyer protection if something goes wrong. Whilst you have no formal protection with cash on pick up either, at least you can inspect the book before you hand over the money and are assured that you will actually receive it.

nah, I think they tried to enforce that once upon a time, but it never happened, ot if it did, was overruled.

When I first started selling (2009), while I could also offer other payment methods, PayPal was mandatory. About a year or so later they allowed other safe payment methods (Paymate or merchant credit card facilities) to be offered instead of PayPal.

Probably, they really don't want a Paymate payment and are just trying to game the system by creating hurdles to safe payment.

I'm not sure what you are saying Craig, Paymate is an acceptable payment method and not a 'hurdle' to safe payment. Most buyers either don't like or don't know about Paymate but it is allowed and almost as easy to use as Paypal.

For some reason, probably because they don't realise they have no seller protection against bank chargebacks, a small number of sellers offer Paymate which is perfectly acceptable and you should not have assumed anything.

I note that pay on pick up is an option, if that is the case then you should never use Paypal until after you have inspected the goods, if you can't use it on a smartphone make sure before you buy that the seller will allow yo access to your Paypal account on their computer to make the payment.
