how do we turn off Global Shipping Program

I was charged $27 fee by Pitney Bowes for a "Global Shipping Program".

I work in logistics & I know it doesn't cost $27 to clear paper products through Customs. I know what is limited & prohibited coming into my country. If I do get inspected, I can deal with Customs myself.

How do we opt out of this ridiculously high fee "Global Shipping Program"?

You are in Australia....the GSP is utilized by sellers in the USA. You cannot dictate to them what service to use BUT you can ask a seller if they will send to you direct. Some will, some won't.

Just for the record....most Australians agree with you, even without the benefits of working in logistics. My daughter is in logistics too so I know where you are coming from and my OH is a courier so we know that it should not take 19 days to deliver once it has cleared Customs here.

Not only is the system expensive but it is also extremely slow for a Priority service. I had a very small item cost $24.95 to ship and 5 weeks to be delivered here.

If you do a search of the boards you will find plenty of threads about the evils of the GSP....they make interesting reading and point out plenty of problems apart from the cost.

It all got too hard, I buy from Australian sellers in Australia first, then the rest of the world, the USA comes last and only if I can't get whatever it is I want from elsewhere!

That's because eBay promotes it as a low-cost method of safe postage, most sellers over there have no idea that it costs the buyer a lot more than it would if they did it themselves.

I have a seller I deal with regularly there, and he was very worried about his international sales dropping by around 50%, until I happened to draw his attention to the cost of posting his small items via GSP.

Needless to say he no longer uses GSP.

As Lyndal has said there are a lot more horror stories about GSP on hte boards here.

Simple solution, either don't use sellers that are signed up for the GSP, or ask them to send direct to you.

so more aussie buyers need to inform these sellers that although they may have Seller protection via GSP, they soon will not have any BUYERS because of the GSP, so the protection is useless!

they need Buyers more than they need protection

When searching for items eBay in their wisdom have added: Customs services and international tracking

provided to all the sellers listings that use the GSP,

This makes it simple to avoid any of their listings,
