PayPal automatically converts the currency on payment. It will show the conversion before you confirm payment.

And if you have some funds in PayPal it automatically uses those first and the balance comes from your linked account.

The invocie should have been in the currency that the item was listed in.

Was it the book from the UK? It was listed in AU$ so that is how you should have been invoiced.

Just be sure that you are not being charged more than the listing proice as you will be paying a conversion fee to paypal instead of the AU$ amount of the listing.

I think I would be asking for the invoice in the listing currency.

It is not unusual for Hong Kong sellers to list on the AU site and the UK site...I will take a bet that he had listings in both currencies and has just confused the listings. How does the amount compare...does the GBP amount compare to the AU$ amount that you bid. You could have completed the payment in GBP....paypal would have converted it for you and told you the AU$ amount coming from your bank/credit card.

What is the Primary currency showing in your paypal account?

It should be showing as AU$.

Have you been paying for everything in GBP? That means you have been paying convserion fees for everything you have paid for through paypal.

Not neccesarily a scam, but some sellers use exchange rates to make profit. OP is asking for invoice in listing currency as is the sensible avenue.

I don't think it is possible to send an invoice through eBay in any currency other than the currency the item was listed in.

All you need to do is go through the ebay checkout system and Paypal will automatically do all the conversions for you.

Just, seller in HK, item in GPD listed in AUD....starting to sound suss to me.

Nothing suspicious at all.

When doing a general search the amount would have shown in AU$ but when you click on the item it shows the currency the item is listed in and underneath it shows the approximate amount in AU$.
