As in life OP, there are a few people in eBay land that can't help but be horrible and rude to others.

Seller rage ?

I usually get annoyed when sellers don't read a message & questions carefully & I have to send more messages (feeling like a nag) to get the answers I need

Tonight took the cake

I have been researching bromeliads & want to make a bulk purchase. All the sellers have different postage rates & of course you want to know what you're up for for additional plants. Some make it wonderfly clear in their listing. One I contacted didn't.

After 2 polite questions about the cost of postage for additional bromeliads, I got an somewhat abusive response accusing me of not reading the listing (which only states to "check with us for combined postage rates"!) & ranted on. I guess that I really should have run for my life & just ignored her. But... I simply responded that all I was asking for was the postage cost per extra plant & gave as an example that some dealers had an all inclusive postage while others charged $ to $3 per plant ,& all I needed was clarification. I was very polite.

This is what I got (what did I do? 😦):

something I dont do especially since ebay went mad! I have also blocked you from buying because I dont sit here waiting to get abused by troublesome buyers waiting to get their nose out of joint and leaving a negative over some other sellers rates, we charge only what it costs as is and dont subsidise post not when a parcel starts at $10.50 by express mail which many customers appreciate so if they want to lower there profit by posting for $8.00 that their choice entirily so please do go to another seller for your plants!

I was only asking about additional postage, not the original cost,& know that you can fit a few bromeliad pups in a parcel without actual additional cost. I wasn't abusive & have been "abused" by her twice.

So you can guess I'm devistated about being blocked, have dodged a bullet there. But really, how do some sellers expect to sell without good customer service.

I went on to spend $100 with another, very helpful seller & spent $30 dollars on postage.😄 Rant over.

Pity you can't say who, im fond of bromiliads and would hate to deal with such a seller. Most gardening sellers seem quite lovely iv only had one guy who was very rude so you have been unlucky...hope you enjoy your plants

What's needing to be discussed, or at least acknowledged is the O P' s being abused and blocked by a seller for asking a simple question.

It sure feels to me that now Dave is being a bum as well

The "rage" thing covers both sides of the fence - there's a lot of dopey buyers out there, too...

Example:I list that I combine postage, and politely request that buyers of multiple items wait for the postage-combined invoice before paying, otherwise eBay will charge them the full wallop for each item.

Few buyers actually wait, and I spend far too much time processing sub-$10 postage refunds via PayPal because a buyer hasn't read the item description.

On the one or two occasions where I haven't made the refund, I've copped a borderline abusive message accusing me of "over-charging". Which, of course, led to a response from me that if the buyer had simply read the item description correctly and waited, we wouldn't be having the conversation, etc.

One threatened negative feedback; I accepted her offer, told her that that my reply to it would be a ripper, and that I was throwing the whole matter across to eBay for adjudication. Never heard from her again...

You can't fix stupid. And trying to educate it is usually a losing game, too.

Yep, I was having a vent, a bit indulgent.

It actually upset me that my intentions were misinterpreted. I shouldn't be so thin skinned but there are a lot of strange people out there who have their issues. I'm thinking that english might not be the first language, but also she's had some bad experiences. The problem with the electronic media is that people put into writing their immediate thoughts & don't take time to think or reflect & it allows anonymity that reduces inhibitions.

I've only had 2 people ever be really rude to my replys in all the years I've bought & sold on Ebay (3 if you count the stalker that sat outside my house...) so I guess the stats are not great

Anyway, all the other sellers I approached with questions were prompt, professional & delightful

@performance_parts_clearance_centre wrote:

Join the club. I even created a gallery photo to try to getthrough to those buyers who never read descriptions and only look at the pictures. But I still get buyers making multiple purchases and paying postage on each.

(sigh)

I am not on anything. It's just a lack of technical expertise so don't get your knickers in a knot as they say.

I should have put a demarcation line like so

----------

between the first two lines and then the lower bit which was a reply part to the initial post but I assumed most people would realise that I was changing tack there.

I don't know how to do multiple quotes within one post on this board, it is not as intuitive as some other boards I am on. Otherwise I would have done that.
