On the 27th of last month I purchased a CD.. When it was still not marked as posted by the 31st I thought I would look at the listing as it was quite unusual to not have been posted by now..

I saw on the listing that they had a postage time of 10 days after cleared payment..

I know it was up to me to read the postage time before buying, but do I have any right to mark down their postage stars, or would that be rude considering it was in the listing?

Has the seller offered any explanation in their listing why is it taking so long? I do not think 10 days is acceptable, but sympathise with people who may live 100km from nearest PO, or disabled people who depend on somebody to take their parcels to be posted maybe about once a week.

In any case, just because it is not marked as posted, does not mean it is not; some people never mark their posted items. And it is also possible that the seller just ticked the 10 days because it was the last option and did not give it a second thought.

i would wait and see.

In any case the stars are for "how fast the seller posted" not did they post when they said they would, although if they put 10 days in TOS and post say in 5, then i guess I would be counting my blessings. :).

They have 10 days in the Postage section of the listing, but not in the actual description and there was no explanation as to why it takes so long..

The only thing I can think of is that eventhough the name is listed as Borders Australia, the CD is coming from Florida, so maybe they have to order it first, and then send it out.

Like super_nova said, some sellers never mark their items as posted. This happened to me recently and it was still posted and received in good time, so I gave them 5 stars for postage. Sometimes you just have to have faith but there is always the 45 day PayPal protection.

Sellers don't currently have to state a reason for a longer than 3 day handling time, but if memory serves they will before the end of the year. (Personally I don't really care what the reasons are, just as long as I can see up-front).

Personally, I would not mark down if it was within their stated handling time, despite if I was annoyed I only checked after I purchased. Not saying I'd give a 5, but there's no way I'd give a 1 or 2.

Yes, that 45 days thing is funny. I wouldn't wait until you are not protected by PayPal any more. As I have posted in another thread, the seller of an item I have bought and still waiting for asks to wait 60 days if buyers live overseas, but obviously I won't wait that long because of PayPal. Maybe considering sometimes delivery times are unreliable PayPal could extend their deadline a bit.

If the handling time of up to 10 days is in the listing I would consider it unfair to mark the seller down for postage time. You can always choose not to leave a rating for postage time.

The estimated delivery time, which shows on the front page, would have taken into consideration that the seller has a handling time of up to ten days. If you look at the listing it does show an estimated delivery time of 11- 16 business days so it was quite clearly showing when the purchase was made without the need to click on the postage and payments tab.

If seller would say in their listing something like: I am sorry but due to my circumstances (be it living 100 km from nearest town, or having health issues) I am unable to post more often than about every 10 days, I would consider buying from them, provided I was not in hurry and of-course would not be marking their DSR down. But if seller just states their handling time as 10 days, I would be hitting the back button.

Looks like Patchoo's seller is dropshipping and therefore it takes so long.

But there is no way I would be waiting 45 days before starting dispute, that suggestion is just too funny to be serious.

Of-courser, some big items if sent by surface do take couple of months, and PP should allow some extension if the seller provides proof of posting that way. That would be very good for Australian sellers who sell large quite heavy items.

With this particular seller they are a huge seller with nearly half a million listings. It would look a little silly if a seller of that size tried to put in some reason such as they are unable to post more often than every 10 days with the volume they sell.

Ebay have provided sellers with the ability to stipulate a handling time which is reflected by eBay in the estimated delivery time. There is really no reason why any seller, no matter how big or small, should then have to justify why they have a handling time of x number of days.

When buying of websites it is not uncommon to have to wait three to four weeks for delivery. Customers accept the terms and conditions of those websites and consider it quite normal to have to wait for a few weeks for their purchase. It shouldn't be any different on eBay if a seller has stipulated a handling time of x number of days.

I buy from a lot of internet sellers with a postage and handling time of up to 21 days.

However I do find most of those with the really long times are the old time mail order companies that have had 21 days for the last 25 years.

Newer (online) businesses state a much shorter time.

Vistaprint quote 21 days for standard postage.

I've never had to wait more than a week or so to get things, though.

Vistaprint quote 21 days for standard postage.

I've never had to wait more than a week or so to get things, though.

I always choose the 21 day, standard postage with them, then a few days later inevitably get the "congratulations, you've been upgraded to..." whatever service means I get it in a week or so. :^O (I wonder if anyone has had to wait the 21 days? ?:| )

I can understand how, in certain circumstances, a personal reason can make someone more sympathetic to the seller, but for me the reason is irrelevant, as it doesn't actually affect the transaction in any real way. I feel the same way if the reason is something like transfers from PayPal - again, the seller's personal circumstances affect their handling time, but stating it has the opposite effect and tends to make buyers unsympathetic instead. If a seller gives me the facts up front so that I can make an informed decision, I don't really need ot want to know any reasons.

I purchased a book from Borders a while ago, it I waited for 4 weeks. I then emailed them & let them know I hadn't received it so they sent a replacement. 2 weeks later they both showed up on the same day. Email them and ask, it won't hurt. ( Mine hadn't been marked as posted either). Don't wait until you can't make a claim.
