Paypal or ebay sent wrong address

I'm just wondering, but is it possible to have the same correct address in both the paypal and ebay recepits, but somehow have the seller get sent on the invoice an old address used for previous purchases from competely different sellers?

It seems to have happened to me. I was expecting a particular ebay parcel, but I think it may have turned up at my old address in a different state. I just tripled checked that both the ebay and parcel receipts have the same correct address, but somehow what seems to be the parcel arrived at a completely different address?

Paypal use the address supplied by eBay checkout. I believe the last address you got something sent to is the default one eBay display to you in checkout. If you go through checkout using that one, then you are confirming it is correct. If you have moved since your last purchase that would explain it.

In any case it is up to you to ensure the correct delivery address is selected when you go through checkout. The seller can only go with the information you have given them.

The thing is that I've had paypal things sent to my new address before. And I just signed in to check both ebay and paypal. Both have my correct new address listed for that particular item. No mention at all about the old address on the receipts, but somehow the old address got given to the seller.

When you go through checkout the address that appears at the top left of the page is the one that goes through to Paypal.

You can of course change that address to any one you like before completing checkout.

Sometimes checkout will default to an alternative or old address, that address will appear on the 'your item has sold' email that the seller receives.

If you then go through checkout and change the address back to your new one then if the seller does not check they may post to the address on the item sold email.

You need to check and see what address is showing on the Paypal transaction page, if the seller has not sent to that address then they are responsible and should refund you or send a replacement.

On my "Here's your order confirmation" email from ebay I have it lists the correct address. Is it possible for the sellers "'your item has sold'" email to displayed a different address? In which case is it some ebay bug?

Also double check this -

In my ebay summary page, hover over account tab and select personal information.

Then to the right of registered name and address, select edit.

There are 3 addresses there to check,

Registration address

Primary postal address

Post from address

I am gueesing you haven't changed the primary postal address. 🙂

Thanks for that, just checked, my primary address is still the old one, fixed now. I just cannot understand why ebay & paypal would send the old "primary address" to the seller, while informing me on my emails that I selected the new address.

I doubt it but it's possible. In addition to what kope said about the primary eBay shipping address, also check what your primary shipping address is with PayPal. It's listed in Profile > Add or Edit Shipping Address. My correct shipping address is listed as Home (first on the list and is connected to my payment method.)

If your old addresses are listed there, you might want to just delete them and have one single address listed in both eBay and PayPal.

Sorry Soulyearns, but quite a few times I have had the original "your item sold" email have a totally different address to that showing once the buyer has gone through checkout, and have had to contact the buyer for clarification - I can only assume it has defaulted to an old / original address.

To cover myself, I ALWAYS check the address against that on the paypal payment, or the one given when they go through checkout and select bank deposit.

To my knowledge, you can have quite a number of addresses linked to paypal ( I personally have about 5 - all family members who don't have / don't want a paypal account). You have to manually select a different address to your primary one when you make a payment!

How can I stop this happening again if I want to not just delete all but one address? It's quite disconcerting to select one address in both ebay and paypal, but have the seller get emailed a completely different address.

Now that you have adjusted the 3 addresses I mentioned, it shouldn't happen again.

Those 3 are different in their own right, and just because you get confirmation of the Registered address having been changed, doesn't mean the others are changed.

As a buyer when you click on pay now you go to the checkout page. At the top left is the delivery address, check that is correct and if it is not just change it. Once you complete checkout that is the address that will appear both in the Paypal transaction and on the seller's ebay page.

As a seller you should ignore the 'your item has sold' email. That could be showing any address, I have about six delivery addresses spread over two countries and whichever one I last used may be showing.

Always use the address that is showing in Paypal, if you use click & send it is even easier as the Paypal address will be automatically input. For bank deposit items check the address showing in the view order details or Selling Manager, if the buyer has paid without completing checkout then they will have to accept it is their fault if it goes to the wrong address, they have no buyer protection anyway although I would always resend if they completed checkout with the correct addeess or refund if it was returned to me.

It's because when you went through eBay Checkout, the Primary Postal Address was set as the default, and you didn't change it.

So, eBay and Paypal told the seller the address that you told them that you wanted delivery sent to.

I'm having a bit of trouble understanding why you think this is confusing?

Delivery addresses for most transactions come from the vendor (eg: eBay or other website), not from Paypal. You nominate the delivery address inside the vendors' shopping cart or checkout, and this info is then passed over to Paypal.

So, please forget Paypal, they have nothing to do with this.

As for the receipts - the ones that matter are those that are sent AFTER you pay. For most transactions that means the email that is from service@paypal.com.au and is titled:

"Receipt for your PayPal payment to [sellername]"

In the email is a block that states the Shipping Address, and this address is passed across to Paypal during the checkout process. It DOES NOT come from anything that is stored on the Paypal website.

Paypal shipping addresses are only used when you are initiating payment from the Paypal "Send Money" webpages, and not for eBay or other "checkout-type" transactions.

It's confusing because I confirmed I selected the correct address on both ebay and paypal checkout pages. Got emails from both paypal and the ebay listing that I've bought the item/paid for it and both still listing the correct address. Yet the seller, gets a different email with a different shipping address.

I think it's what phorum_junkie is talking about with the "Your item has sold" email. I think the seller must have taken the address off of that, and not the ebay email when I checked out and paid for the item. As to my confusion, I'm just wondering why ebay would have such a system as to send an email containing an address which may or may not be correct, before the buyer goes through checkout and is given the option to select an address.

Sorry - I misunderstoof your situation, and got it wrong.

I definitely agree that the first email that the seller receives is TOTALLY misleading, because it states the default (registered) address directly underneath a heading that says "Buyer's postal address"

Yet at the point in time, when that email is sent, the buyer has not nominated which address they actually want the item posted to. It's dumb, and it's always been that way.

This situation is easily avoided if you are a seller.

Never read item sold emails!

I don't read any of the ebay generated after sales emails except if a buyer has paid by bank deposit and not completed checkout, fortunately it rarely happens

I don't even log into ebay until after most of my parcels are packed and labelled ready for posting. I first log into click & send and process all the items thast are added automatically, I then log into Paypal just in case somebody has paid direct and not gone through checkout and copy and paste the name and address etc over to C&S. I then log into my bank account and only log into ebay if there is a new payment there.

As a buyer I always check that the correct delivery address is showing in checkout and make sure I complete the process.

I always use the address on the paypal "payment received" email, if they pay by bank deposit I use the address on ebay.

Gem Boy using an address in ebay is fine once the buyer has paid, it is the address in the item sold email that should be ignored. As I said it is easy to avoid making the mistake if you don't read them 😉

I will never use ebay again they sent to wrong address even though I put correct address they use a wrong default address that I had to change 3 times before it was correct...they kept putting diffetrent state and potcode/zip code...then they say it is my fault and nothing they can do...terrible service...their mistake and I have to pay for it!!!
