What should I do?

Hoping to get some advice on an item I have just sold? I realize that the condition I had described this item is not as good as it actually is!! I know, its a big stuff up and goes against everything that eBay is and all that!!! Not sure how to proceed at this point? Happy to refund, even happy to send the item for free etc... as making money is not really my objective, just trying to downsize really??

I guess my question is, what is the best way to handle this for the buyers perspective? Please help, I know I have stuffed up!!! Whislt I described the item as say a 4/5, in actuality when coming to package it, it is probably a 3/4? And I want to be honest with the buyer without getting a defect or neg?

You can explain the reasoning behind your reassessment of the items condition to your buyer and see if they still want their purchase. Otherwise you could end up with a neg and defect relating to item description. Any future listings you need to be very clear about item condition backed up with photos of any faults so that buyers can make an informed decision BEFORE they buy.

Not sure if this is the ID you are selling under as you have not items listed and don't appear to have any sold history.

I don't see any problems,you say that the item is in better condition than you described it so the buyer will be happier to get something better than described.

And 4/5 is the same as 3/4

Yep..Send it 100% free by refund. You might learn next time in being more honest.

Hang on,isnt 4/5 same as 3/4 ?

Yes, I was just wondering how to communicate this with the buyer? As I say, I really am not bothered about making money off this tem, I just really don't want the buyer to feel ripped off, both morally as an generally honest person, and then also the whole eBay implications!

And yes, this is purely a posting i.d. (sorry if that upsets you Joe). I am usually ultra careful with descriptions and go way beyond in descripbing imperfections (to the point of obsession) and photographing; sadly this time I am not sure what happened!!! Thanks so much for the advice!!

You've already worked out the best way to go.

Offer buyer 100% refund, ask them if they still want the item describing it's true condition and if buyer still wants it it's up to you if you discount the item, maybe 25% discount or send it for free.

Buyer will be happy, they should give you top feedback unless they are ****holes, but they would have given you a neg doesn't matter what you did.

Hi, thanks for the advice, I meant 3/5?? Can't even type properly at the moment!!!

Thanks! What your response highlights is actually my predicament? I am not sure if to 1) contact the buyer, issue the automatic refund explaining why, or 2) send the item with the money inside an envelope and explaining why?

OP have you made a mistake in your question as to what you really did because I am totally the opposite to what others are telling you to do

Sorry Crow!!! In my haste to get advice and sort this mess out, I think I have even got the question wrong!!!! Jeez........breathe..........ok; let's try again. I described the item as a 4/5, but did mention the item as having some imperfections. When I went to pack the item i actually either realized it is only a 3/5 or am seeing it through a different lens than I did last time, or even that the item has deteriorated?

I'd contact the buyer first and ask what they want to do.

The buyer can decide what suits them the best and it gives you Brownie points.

Yes, I do think that is probably the best idea!!! Not bothered about even losing money on this, happy to send the item for free and even pay the shipping myself, but was just wondering the best way around doing this, hence my asking for advice? I normally over describe items and analyze but this one is a book, and describing them can be really hard to do
