Does anyone sell on Amazon.com?
Just wondering if sellers definitely do need for U.S. or U.K bank account... or is there an easy way to use an Aussie one or some online service?
I can get a U.K one... just wondering if there was anything else with less fees.

I sell on Amazon. I'll start to take it more seriously when I go to Guangzhou, China next month sourcing new products.

You can use your Australian Bank account to register for an account (in the past this was not possible).

Amazon probably charge slightly more in fees, but the advantage is you can ship your products to them and they will fulfill the orders for you.

That said, I have bought from Amazon UK and USA....not different to any online buying venue really. You buy, you pay, they ship.

I doubt that Amazon has a Hand Holding Committee to talk Michelle through every step of the transaction. She will be on her own unless she comes here for some moral support.

I have purchased an out of print book I was looking for for 5 years from one of their private sellers but postage was nearly A$30.00 which is more than double Amazon's normal rate. Book arrived in 10 days

If your book arrived quickly and had rather high postage it sounds like it was sent through one of the USPS premium services.

That is certainly better than through ebay's GSP which charges high postage and is painfully slow.

The item was posted first class mail. And this was the fist item purchased from a private seller.

I always receive books from Amazon within 7-10 days - I always choose the cheapest shipping Standard Mail which is first class mail. Slmetimes they send via DHL sometimes USPS and very rarely UPS.

DHL and UPS are couriers and much more expensive than USPS First Class Airmail.

@A lot of private book sellers lose quite a bit of money on postage @Amazon's standard rates. They (Amazon) subsidise the postage costs even, and the seller will still end up short - their flat P&H costs aren't quotes of actual postage, it's more likely the private seller's was an actual quote.

I know couriers are expensive but Amazon use them around christmas time to ensure delivery - cost me nothing over what I paid for first class mail. They sometimes use FedEx but DHL is their normal courier.

I have been buying books from Amazon nearly 20 years.

Yes, you're right when it comes to books, (sellers can set their own shipping prices in non-media categories), but my main point was the standard Amazon postage rates aren't a reflection of actual shipping costs, so in cases where Amazon's rates are used, most sellers will inflate the item prices to compensate (or lose money) - I was primarily commenting on the either / or of the situation, as in, postage may have been nearly double, but more likely closer to actual cost.
