Look I'm new to this. BUT I've had two experiences with people buying and then not paying. Not Auction situations.

One I referred to the Resolution Centre & was eventually paid. The other, I just cancelled the transaction. Both are sitting there waiting for my feedback.

I feel that I need to leave the negative feedback which is warranted, in order to alert other sellers.

But on the other hand am concerned about the backlash.

As i understand it, the buyer who who was dealt with by the Resoution Centre has no right of response.

But what about the other Buyer - who I initated the cancellation?

As I say - new here, don't want to cause grief, DO want to be responsible. Please alert me to issues.

Thankyou for he previous guidance I've received here. j

No need to be concerned (though maybe for different reasons than you might hope for or expect) - sellers can't leave negative feedback for buyers, at all. You can only leave a positive or nothing - if you leave a negative comment with a positive rating, it is reportable, the comment will be removed (but not the +1 to the buyer's positive tally), and you'll have a policy violation to boot.

Best to simply go through the unpaid item process on all unpaid orders (unless agreed to cancel mutually), as that way no one can leave any feedback (or if they do, it can be removed).

The buyer that you took to the resolution centre can definitely leave feedback for you as she eventually paid.

It is only when the dispute closes with the item still unaid that neither of you can leave feedback.

If a buyer doesn't pay after 4 days, do other sellers a favour and open a non payment dispute. Don't cancel. If you close a non payer dispute without payment, the buyer gets a strike against their name. If they get 2 strikes, they find they are blocked from any sellers who have buyer requirement blocks in place, to block buyers with 2 or more strikes.

If you cancel, they have effectively got away with their bad behaviour. Plus, if you cancel, the buyer can still leave feedback and you might find you get a red dot.....purely because they can and they know you can't leave one in return. A closed non payer dispute prevents either party leaving feedback.

If you get non paying bidders, go the route of an official non payment dispute. I liked tippy's wording-do other sellers a favour.

It isn't your feedback that will help them, but more the strike a non payer gets might eventually help to block them from buying from other sellers for a time.

As for feedback, any buyer who pays for an item can leave you feedback, even if they were a bit slow off the mark to pay and needed a prod. With luck, that particular buyer of yours won't bother with feedback or will not give neutral of neg feedback. If they do, you can give a factual reply eg buyer took 8 days to pay.

Basically, if any buyer gives you grief in a transaction, you'd be better off giving them no feedback than any feedback that involves awarding them a green dot.

Yes, you can/could check if a buyer has been caught by your blocks but as far as I know there is no way of knowing if a buyer has strikes just by looking at their account.....they have to have tried to bid.

If that bidder has a few recent non payment strikes, they just won't be able to bid if the seller has put the blockers in place.

What I think should also happen is that for any transaction where a seller's non payment claim has been approved by ebay, that the buyer should earn a demerit point as far as feedback goes. That would mean if, for example, their score was 10 in feedback, it would go back to 9. A regular non payer would soon have a fairly low score-as long as sellers carried through with a non payment strike & didn't simply let it go or cancel a sale.

A lower score would not in itself 'out' the buyer. No one would know what their previous score was anyway. But it might help sellers over their longing to leave false positives. And it would be a more accurate reflection of their rating by others.

I don't think it is a good idea for ID's to clearly show the number of non payment tallies as such. When you think about it, that's potentially a bit humiliating for a person, a bit like a teacher sitting a child in a corner with a hat on that says Dunce. You can't do it nowadays. You'd turn customers off in droves.

I have no unpaid items strikes against my name but if i did have, I'd be really peeved if ebay ID'd me as eg Springy (200) (4 unpaid item strikes). I would either leave or not bid for years till they fell off or else change my ID. None of those are helpful to ebay and their business and I don't think it would be helpful to sellers really. No one is going to look me up or even know I exist until I have already bought.
