Not much luck selling

My necklaces are ending soon and only 1 person has bid on them. Why are they not selling well?

Because -

1. They are priced too high

2. They are priced too low

3. They are not something people want -

4. At this time.

5. Advertising on the boards is unlikely to improve your sellthrough rate.

I intend the following to be constructive criticism, so I hope it's taken the way I mean it (ultimately, to help).

Jewellery isn't exactly an easy sell on eBay - especially generic (by which I mean un-branded) fashion jewellery, so a really good listing can take a bit of work, but for a few general tips:

The titles are quite sparse - you need to make as much use of the space allowed in titles as possible, as it's one of the main ways buyers will look for and find items on eBay. If you just have a couple of keywords, your listings will be lost in amongst thousands of others, and won't be returned at all if a buyer searches for something more specific. Taking the first listing ('Necklace') as an example, I would include some other keywords in the title that are more specific, eg colour, material, long / double-strand. So you could have a title (I'm guessing the materials used) along the lines of Long Double Strand Shell & Glass Beaded Necklace Silver & Blue Tones

Jewellery descriptions also benefit from information in the listing such as measurments (length, bead sizes / dimensions, specifics about materials used - i.e. glass, crystal, shell, MOP, abalone? are the silver beads nickel free etc).

Jewellery also sells a bit better with several, individual images that show things from different perspectives. I would also recommend doing a little editing to brighten them up so that people can get a better idea what they look like from the gallery image.

Thankyou so much for your help. I will definately do what you have suggested for next time. I have bought and returned 4 different lights, lamps, spotlights which I wanted to use to brighten up the photos but they didn't help much.

I took a look at one of your completed listings. Your description was two lines long, with one of those letting prospective buyers know that the listing was posted from a mobile.

I think the 'lazy listings' comment was aimed at your descriptions.

- You need to put length, materials (stones) and other information. Remember, you are trying to sell them, so sell them in your description!

- Think of the information you look for when you buy on eBay.

- Look at some completed listings of other (successful) sellers and see how their listings differ from yours.

- Use the full 80 character allowance for your titles. Use words that prospective buyers would search for when looking for items like yours.

- You get 12 photos as part of your listing, so take at least 6 photos of the item to show it off.

You need to put more effort into your listings than buying something to display them on.

Please don't take these comments as criticism, think of them as being free help/advice from a fellow seller.

Jewellery is my main category, and I think a lot of people would be surprised at what my original photos look like... I do a bit of editing afterwards to improve them but before that they are actually quite drab looking.

A few extra tips based on my personal preferences:

Natural light only, and indirect (i.e. no electric lights of any kind, and no direct sunlight - I usually take photos next to and underneath a window on a bright day).

I only have a cheapie point-n-shoot digital camera, but with the right settings I can get some really nice detail - no flash, and macro is the default. I also take fairly wide angle shots, so there is a lot of blank space around the items, then when I go in to edit I can crop and frame them myself.

For dark images, I load them into Windows photo gallery and use the editing tools to brighten them (change the exposure, reduce shadows, increase contrast if necessary). It's free software, and the results can make a huge difference. 🙂

I would agree with all the advice given.

Can't say i have bought jewellery over the internet, but for me, with any item, the more detail (within reason) the better.

One thing is intriguing me here, I clicked on Kylie's name as I was curious to see what one of the listings actually looked like, but it showed me zero items on sale.

So then I clicked on completed listings and it showed the same.

So I went into feedback to read feedback as seller-thought I could click on a recently sold item from there, but it was showing only things from about 2008.

Okay, I give up. How are all the rest of you getting to see the listings? There has to be another way I don't know about.

when you 'click' from the message boards it takes you to Ebay.com.....so you have to add .au to the search 🙂

the addition of the ".au" immediately after the "ebay.com" part of the URL does not seem to be necessary to see all poster's listings. I just hit the view listings for glenbankloel and it took me to a list of listings.
