Just noticed a new feature on a couple of listings I was looking at. It was " trending as " in red font near the sellers price. It gave the mediun price for similar items sold on ebay for the last 14 days or three months.

This should be another handy tool to drive down sellers prices even further in a race to the bottom and give the buyers an even better " ebay experience."

That is crazy, almost like ebay is trying to dictate to sellers.

I know SOME new sellers make the mistake of starting low instead of high
But for ebay to tell buyers your price is $10 more than the last sales is nuts.

I had a bit of a look around when I first saw it. It seems to be on very popular items, such as current books, computer games etc. It does not appear on items that are a little bit more uncommon. There is a little tiny question mark icon next to the price indicator which gives a run down on how ebay arrive at the figure.

This would work for new items, but used items and collectables can vary in condition and price to a huge extent, so it could be very misleading for these items.

Ebay seems to be taking a similar stance to the big supermarkets. ie. drive the price down as much as possible for the people supplying the product ( in ebays case the ebay seller ) , keep the suppliers under the thumb and provide cheaper products to the end user / consumer. In ebays case this is the buyers.

This would be important for ebay in its quest to compete with companies such as Amazon.

the trending thingy has been on the USA site for quite some time for items that I look at.

With the recent change to the menu bar to keep eBay.au in line with eBay USA and UK, I can only guess that it is standardising the eBay page across the globe. Log in to eBay.com and you will get an idea about things to come.

I read in a thread last year that eBay.com allows sellers to open UnPaid Item cases after just two days . . . . . now that would be a change that I would welcome!
