Best Way to Send DVDs by Post?

I have about 300 DVDs and BluRays which I no longer want and want to sell on ebay. How much should 1 DVD cost to post from Perth to over East? And which are the best envelopes to buy? Tried looking on the Austpost website but unsure still.

Aust Post sellsDVD mailers at $1.65 for the box and then if it weighs less than 250g it would be $2.10 for postage = $3.75

It will give you everything you need to know.

Personally, I just wrap it in my own thin cardboard or one of those large letter envelopes (or the half-size ones) and slap two stamps on it and send it off in the local letterbox. Always works. Wrap it in an A4 sheet of paper for extra protection from bumps.

Very out of date indeed! So many changes since 2012. Not only has postage costs increased several times, there is now the FVF on postage, which has reigned quite a few of the postage pirates in.

Piece of bubble wrap inside case so nice and snug, thin plastic sleeve over case (lunch bag etc or cling wrap) for water protection and place in prepaid C5 envelope from Auspost - works out $1.80 single or buy 10 pack it's about $1.70. never had a problem.

I have sold a few DVD's recently - I posted them in padded mailer bags - 151 x 229mm (tight squeeze).

As you have about 300 to sell, if you bought the padded bags in bulk from an online packaging place that would be the lowest cost option.

Postage for one DVD in case, single disc is $1.40 letter rate, double disc in case - $2.10. This is for letter rate, no tracking. Those postage rates are Australia wide.

Must be less than 20mm in height for letter rate. If sending some that sell for a high, then you could send them registered post (with tracking) at extra cost on top of postage cost - about $3.50.

If you did need to send a few to same buyer in a parcel - up to 500gm satchel using eBay postage labels is $7.20 (plus ebays 9.9% FVF fee on top of all postage costs as well as item cost).

The Post ofice PB2 padded bags at 151 mm x 229 mm are a bit tight and only suitable for thin DVD cases,(3 months ago they cost

me 45 cents each when I bought a 100 of them).

The better option is to buy from an ebay-packaging seller on here who have theirs at a cheaper rate and their bags size is 172 mm

x 220 mm,(which means they have more room and will fit a standard DVD case easily).

If you sell 2 in one lot they also have 236 mm x 350 mm bags.

Other options are B1 and B2 boxes if you sell 5 or more to one buyer.

Australia post have just put their prices for parcels up again. A 500g or less parcel is now $7.45

Has it gone up already? I thought it wasn't happening until March? Maybe I sniffed too much gas today and not thinking straight 😛

Edit: just checked AP site and it is March 2 when the prices go up. I was worried I'd missed the boat without updating my listings!!

Sellers might *think* bubble/jiffy bags are tough or that envelopes (prepaid or not) are the easy/cheap/sufficient option,

but as a buyer I have not been too impressed when dvds have arrived rattling around or are cracked. some have got through

ok, others haven't. I wish more sellers might consider the flat cardboard mailer boxes (same seller mentioned has these

mailers and at 16mm thick should be fine to send as 'large letters'. I noticed a bulk lot of 200 that worked out about 34c each.

Seems a pretty good price to me (and no not linked to them, just sharing info)

Using the padded mailer bag sizes mentioned above, there is no room for the DVD to rattle around. I also put a piece of bubble wrap inside the front cover of the DVD case.

Sellers selling DVD's no longer wanted around home, may not want to invest $70 up front for 200 DVD mailer boxes. In smaller quantities the mailer boxes are dearer than padded mailer bags.

Myself I wouldn't send a DVD in a paper envelope.

The piece of bubble wrap inside the cover is a good idea - anything that might prevent the dvd moving around or getting scratched.

If I didn't want to invest upfront in a bulk quantity of cardboard mailers I would probably invest in a quantity of the prepaid envelopes from Australia Post and then use some cardboard either side of the cover - if I had a few mm to spare. Chop up a few boxes, it is cheap, and you get to do a bit of 'recycling'.
