topic How do I cancel an Item without receiving a defect? in Selling

How do I cancel an Item without receiving a defect which ebay, in their infinite wisdom automatically ticked to relist? I DID NOT nor do I ever tick the relist button without giving considerable thought to the Item concerned; I have also had a problem with their “Or Best Offer” option, it seems to magically appear in my listings when I know, without doubt, that I did not place a tick in that section. Are ebay now deciding what should be relisted and totally ignoring the decision of Sellers.

Anyway rant over, had a glass of wine and chilled out, so back to my original question; can I cancel an Item without getting a smack on the bottom?

Any assistance would be gratefully received.

Are you talking about cancelling a listing? Or a sale?

Defects do not apply to listing, you can cancel a listing except in the last 12 hours, or if the item has bids (I think that's right).

If it is a sale you want to cancel, and you are saying that the item is no longer available and should not have relisted, then you will probably get a defect, although if you have an understanding buyer you could possibly ask them to agree to a cancellation using the "Buyer made a mistake" reason. Then no defect should occur.

And the buyer will probably give you negative feedback for cancelling and low DSR ratings which could equate to defects as well.

You need to carefully word your request to cancel to the buyer and hopefully they will be OK with it.

suck up to a buyer, refund but dont process cancellation via eba to get the FVF back (you will have to wear that). cross your fingers and hope buyer does not leave a neg or neut. If they do its a defect (they may leave no fb). If you get a defect you may as well go ahead and process cancellation and get fvf back as your already defective.

Sometimes you can dodge the bullet and sometimes you cant.

The question I was asking was "How to cancel and Item", I should have simply stated "How to Cancel an unwanted Relist by ebay"? No Buyer, therefore no Sale, so you have answered my question and thank you very much.

If I have had to cancel a sale I ask the seller if they would like to cancel the order (for whatever reason) if they say yes I mark that the buyer wanted to cancel. So far this has worked for not getting a defect.
