Clothing conversions is not the exact science most of us would like it to be and if you google half a dozen sites you're just as likely to find the same number of different charts, but I have found this one to be fairly accurate for my purposes.

I sell ski wear and can only re-iterate what cq has said about size conversion charts. I would also advise measuring a jacket that fits - shoulder to shoulder across back, underarm to underarm across closed front, underarm to cuff, shoulder to cuff - and use these measurement to compare to anything you're considering.
