Help with a possible value on these please.

Hi everyone,

My mother has an old bedroom suite and two other wardrobes and my siblings want to simply dump them all. I'm hoping that someone here may be able to tell me if they are collectible items worth trying to sell on here for her - and anything you may know about them.

The suite is complete with a wardrobe, double bed ends, dressing table and 2 bedsides. I've posted a pic of the dressing table to show the style and pattern.

The second pic shows the other two matching wardrobes.

I'd appreciate any help you can give.

I don't think that style is all that popular, but it's possibly worth a shot. Somebody might just love them, and I've sold pieces in the past to production companies and set decorators trying to recreate a certain look or era. At the very least someone may come and collect them, and save you the trouble of moving them yourself 🙂

Phoenix, I am not an expert with furniture, but this suit looks lovely and seems in very good condition. Lots of young people buy older cottages now, to renovate, and try to replicate the era of the building by looking for suitable furniture.

(I know. I have some of them in my family.) 😉

It's cheaper and more affordable for them, so they are always on the lookout for lovely bargains.

Don't just dump it, please. Look through Ebay House & Garden, Furniture, Bedroom furniture. It will give you an idea of what others offer.

I would list the bedroom suite with lots of pictures, at about $300.00 starting price, and mention the separate listing of the two wardrobes att the end of the description.

Do you know how old the suite is? Where it came from? Was it bought in Australia or brought from overseas?

Little details that my just influence a sale.

was asked to dispose of a bedroom set that looked similar to that one when a neighbour's father went into a nursin' home.

as soon as i tried to move the wardrobe, the whole thing fell apart, it may 'ave been assembled in the same room, would 'ave to be twenty-five/thirty years ago.

if you're goin' to list it, just make sure that it can be moved - and that it fits through the door.

I have a huge four door wardrobe, that was brought from Europe more than 50 years ago. It would not fit through a door, but every panel, top and bottom, plus each door is locked together with special metal locks, and I have the special key to the locks.

Checking anything for soundness before offering for sale is important. There are always sellers that just don't care. 😞

Thank you all so much for your input and suggestions. I think I've had a win with the family re. dumping, anyway.

Wyvernantiques -They are not to my taste either.

However, everyone is different and as you say, I just may find someone who wants them. 🙂

Erica - I have started looking in the places you've named and will keep my fingers crossed. Thank you for all your suggestions.

not_an_eloi - they have been well looked after and are very solid - AND will fit through doorways (as many moves around the house can attest to). lol 🙂
