Question Postage costs in Selling on eBay

Hi Guys,

I recently sold some vintage lava lamps a Guy in Florida bought them and the total funds were quoted as saying $330 over what they sold for so I assumed that was covering my postage costs which came to a bit over $330 whichI thought was ok but now I find out Ebay charges sale tax of $130 and the buyer put in $200 for postage, this was not disclosed to me so now I short $ 130 on postage, can I get this back?

I find your post a little confusing.

How were you able to post the items without having the order details? This is the source of the delivery address and shows a complete breakdown of the buyer's payment - including postage, GST, vat, etc..

You're telling us that you didn't receive this communication. I've never seen or heard of a sale which didn't result in the order details being available to the seller. This just seems extremely odd to me.

Without the order details, how did you even know you had sold the items.... or that you'd been paid anything?

Personally, I would never ship anything at all without first looking at the order details.

I should also point out that (this may sound harsh, but sometimes that's how quoting facts comes across) you were in fact fully aware of all applicable duties/taxes/fees, etc. that are collected from the buyer by eBay, and that they charge the FVF on this amount as well. You, yourself, confirmed this and gave eBay permission to do so. You can't change your mind later and claim ignorance - just saying.

No you can not get it back, it is your responsibility to know what taxes, duties etc are payable. The tax is charged by the Florida state government, it is merely collected and dispersed by ebay.

Selling international is full of challenges, Firstly I hope they do not have a problem clearing US Customs, and I hope your buyer is fully aware that they require 240 volts and won't work in the USA without step up transformers. I hope I am wrong, only checked one of the listings which did not specify electrical requirements.

Is the payment shown in your seller hub ?

If yes, ebay will see you as a new seller so are you signed up for managed payments and understand that your funds may be on hold for 30 Days ?

Good grief.

All I see is a world of pain.

Why send such expensive items OS - when all they have to do is open an item not as described.

Keep the items & get a refund.
