Can someone from eBay please explain how they are exempt from advertising prices for goods over $1000 without any GST?
This is an Australian website, all transactions and prices should be inclusive of GST.

·1 year agoIf you purchase an item for $1000 + from overseas, GST is calculated and charged at the border on import, by customs or there agent. It is not collected and processed by ebay, as is the case for low value imports.
As you are the importer, it is up to you to know what you are doing.

·1 year agoif you are talking about GST for auction items, there are too many variables, making calculation of GST only possible once the auction ends.
Think about it, an item in the USA is being bid on by people all over the world, with differing Value Added Taxes, real time adding of those taxes is not plausible.
If the item high bid is US$100, the next bid an Aussie would need to make to nudge that bid to US$101 would be US$111.22 while someone in Poland would need to bid US$131.18. In this example, I have assumed free shipping. Once shipping comes into play, with rates varying on location of bidders, it becomes a nightmare to calculate the bid required to get to the next increment.
Then there's the GSP, who charge a fee to process shipping of an item, with GST payable on that fee.
Australian legislation for GST on low-value items bought from overseas on platforms like eBay allows for non-GST inclusive pricing, so it is obvious that such pricing is allowed (it made implementation and compliance easier).
In lieu of GST inclusive pricing, a note attached to the listing informs members that GST will be payable.

Sellers who sell on eBay list the item
But as said, if you want an eBay answer, ask eBay
Or was it the seller in the UK, listing on the UK site and had the information shown accordingly?
