How do I permanently delete old messages from the rubbish folder ?

You can't

They will drop off after some time just like they do when left in your inbox

I have messages that are 6 months old in my rubbish folder, why can I not empty it as I can with my email server.? It seems a bit senseless to maintain old messages for so long.

Maybe not so senseless.

Buyers can still open a case up to 180 days in Paypal.
