Wrongful account charges after chargeback dispute.

    Hi community,

I'm having a real debacle going on at the moment and looking for some insight or advice moving forward. Originally, I had a fraudulent buyer try scam me by doing an unrecognized chargeback dispute for nearly $2000 for an item I sold, eBay took the money from my account I appealed the charge, and it took a while but commonsense prevailed and eBay awarded in my favor sent me an email confirming I'm protected while refunding me and closing the case. (very thankful they could see it was a fraudulent buyer)

Now eBay has started charging my account again for that same amount and send me emails saying it's for fee's and charges. I have had countless emails, phone calls, and the customer service online chat center. This has been going on for weeks!! On the odd occasion I can get someone to actually see the error they tell me it's a higher department, and someone will call within 24-48 hours. Nobody ever calls back!?! It's getting beyond frustration as my bank is charging me for reversing the forced chargebacks from eBay every couple of days.

When I go to the payments center it shows they are charging me again for the original fraud attempt charge back but I have the email showing that I won, and they refunded me. Customer service agents can see the error and assure me a call back to be resolved, but it never happens. Been in limbo for weeks.

What's the next step? pulling my hair out!

    Thanks in advance.

Let us know how it all pans out. eBay must liaise with Adyen as a matter of urgency.

Is eBay still trying to charge you?

If so, as others have said, make a complaint with the AFCA. (Link opens new page - or copy-paste link into your browser … https://www.afca.org.au/make-a-complaint )

Adyen will be the financial institution against whom you make the complaint. (Don’t misspell it as “Ayden” as quite a few people have told me it’s “not there” and then realised they hadn’t spelt it correctly.)

You could try one last time to resolve this without making that complaint (as the financial institution is fined as a result of a legitimate account, and eBay don’t want Adyen to be fined repeatedly - bad for business on a large scale). Tell eBay they must resolve this with Adyen by end of business Tuesday, and they must inform you in writing of this by that time, or you will unfortunately be raising a complaint with the AFCA. Be very polite and don’t phrase it as a threat - just as the unavoidable action you’ll have to take to resolve the problem. You must follow through if eBay haven’t been able to resolve it in that timeframe.

Thank you for your reply, yes eBay is still trying to charge me for the funds they have awarded and refunded me in my favor from a charge back dispute. I have emails and bank transactions for full reference to show they awarded me the funds in my favor.

It seems like a simple accounting error on their behalf but to try get it resolved is proving to be very difficult. I will do as you mentioned and try one final time with the polite manner you have outlined as I really don't want to make a complaint against them as we have had a harmonious relationship until now but I'm at a dead end because they never reply back for the problem to be resolved.

….are they trying to charge you for the chargeback fee, or the full transaction amount?

I have been through all that side of things thank you, I have had the dispute awarded in my favor and been refunded and had the case closed but it seems like an accounting error that they keep charging me for it. Seems like a simple fix but can't get anyone to address it.

The result of chargebacks and any appeals, is determined by financial institutions, not ebay.  Ebay can forward information on your behalf, but they have no say on the final result.

Yes, that's what I was told originally. Long story short I had to wait 8 weeks for an outcome then appeal the decision as the bank sided with the buyer because they didn't have my side of the story yet, once I showed them all my evidence, they could see it was a dodgy buyer trying to defraud the bank and myself. Case got awarded in my favor then I got refunded and case closed.

In a 3-week period I have had 3 emails, heaps of online chats and 8 phone calls and every time I ask to speak to a supervisor/manager, and they say none are available and assure me the issue has been escalated to the highest priority, and I will get a call back in 24-48 hours. No one ever calls back!   Thank you for your reply.

The last bit is the standard copy and paste reply eBay give to everyone who contacts them about anything

It's typed/said from a pre-written script and does not mean anything

Emails are bot automated and not 'read' by a human

I can only echo Financial Ombudsman, I'm afraid
