I just bought a Reciprocating saw on eBay, and had to go through an age verification process with a credit card in order to complete the purchase.
The reason given was "because you are buying a bladed tool".
I did this and completed the purchase and then I tried to get through to Customer Service, but was just sent around several circular routes trying to find an option of contacting customer service on anything but their suggested subjects. Which wound me up further, as I was unsuccessful. Hence I am venting my frustrations here in the hope that someone in dBay with some sense sees it.
I wanted to know what law they are trying to comply with, cause I seriously doubt it would be applicable in this case. Who the hell would buy a reciprocating saw in order to harm or kill someone. I wonder if it is the same for Jigsaws and Multitools.
I have come across this in DIY stores too. Wicks takes out the circular saw blades from their display saws. But no other such store does it, so it can only be an over zealous interpretation of some rule meant for something else.
If this happens again in eBay, I will cancel the purchase and buy somewhere else.

·1 year agoUse your computer to access the relevant UK legislation and the ebayuk info on sale and delivery of bladed items. Interesting that pickup is not available for such items and they must be shipped via permitted carriers with age verification on delivery.
I could post you a couple of links, but figure you should know what laws etc apply in your own backyard, or at least try to find out yourself.

I doubt you get be getting special treatment next time either
So rather than waste the seller's time and money buying cancelling because you don't think rules should apply to you, bypass eBay altogether
