pace306 has posted along the same lines as I’d have done (except for the apostrophe shortage, but I quibble).

The comments quoted are curated; dare I say… invented?

Someone’s briefing the team to use the word magic. “Get that word out there; it’s driving the algorithm!” or words to that effect.

Pooh. Pfffff. Blither and blunder, puddles and thunder, nonsense and gibber-jabber. Thus say I, an organic intelligence, a human being, not a bot-driven computational system leeching upon the creativity and reason and intelligent work generated by humans.

I certainly don't need AI to generate my individual, specific to the book, listings. I've already seen what the current AI produces, which rarely relates to what I'm selling.

By definition magic is fantasy, which is where eBay Management seem to dwell.

I wasn't sure what GMV stood for but I did get the impression that the AI search is being rolled out for their second hand market.

It has always surprised me that ebay has seemed to downplay this sector. If you watch the TV ads, they will say things such as 70% of ads on ebay are now for brand new products  etc.

They seem to have made it harder for the little mum & dad sellers of the past to sell a few used things here and there and most have moved to marketplace.

So it seems the new focus of the AI is going to be for anyone looking up second hand luxury items or collectables for the moment.

I've been seeing/watching AI a lot on facebook and at present, it often cannot pick up on obvious mistakes or discrepancies. I have no doubt it will improve but I hope customers still do some in depth checking before they click to buy anything ebay may direct them to.

"I'd like to talk to Nitzan Mekel-Bobrov"

I wonder if he can be booked for children's parties because according to the eBay News Team:

"Nitzan's work ensures that eBay can  magically  and responsibly deliver AI-powered experiences"

    This is ridiculous.

Will eBay end up putting management in the hands of AI? Just think of the saving re golden handshakes and inflated salaries.

At eBay, all AI-powered features are developed in close collaboration with our 'Responsible AI team' to ensure they align with our values of safety, fairness, transparency, and accountability.

There's a video in this link . Check out the  high prices of the examples:

    Likewise with scam listings.

The scammers on the US site are already having a field day since ebay introduced automated feedback for 'all'  transactions. Either for  fake tracking  before it's discovered or for selling hundreds of .99cent items.

    Building up feedback first.

Can't wait  to see AI 's suggestions of high priced, non existent items !
