I purchased an electrical item 8 months ago. A small portable sewing machine. I have used it once but put it away to use at Christmas time to make things. I received notification this week from ebay that this item poses a severe safety risk and could cause electric shock and that the item has been removed by ebay. Because I bought it over 6 months ago, I cannot choose this item to contact ebay about it. Only the last 6 months of purchases show. I tried to contact the seller about it and pasted in screen shots of the warnings from ebay but they have not responded to me. I see they have updated their listing and are still selling the item. Is there any way I can actually contact ebay to see if I have any way of being covered for a return or refund on this item. I obviously wont be using it. Every way I have tried to get a message through to ebay is stopped because I cannot click on the item because it does not show - only the last 6 months purchases show.

·11 months agoYou are way out of time for eBay to do anything. Their terms are strictly 30 days from date of receipt. They are not a warranty service.
Nor will the seller engage as they also know eBay will do nothing.
You have done your dough unless, as sandy said, the seller is authorised, in Australia, to sell the product. Which I doubt.

Yes I only received the email from eBay last week to say the item is deemed unsafe (8 months after purchase) and there is a severe threat of electric shock and that it is withdrawn from sale. And yet the listing is showing as “removed due to violation” yet they are still selling it. I can’t understand that. It says the listing has been updated by the seller.

·11 months agoGoogle search product recalls, if it is sold throughout Australia, there should be recall on the product.

if it is a product sold in Australia you can return it for a full refund of the retail price and you won’t need a receipt

·11 months agoYes, it is a worry, but maybe the seller changed something in their listing, a new model number or something, so the ad can slip through. I still would not buy it in a fit though.
Sandy is right though. If you're buying electrical stuff direct from China, there is always that risk it is unsafe as it hasn't passed Australian standards. There are a lot of knock off products coming out of China too.
People sometimes think that as so much of what is in our shops now comes from China, what is the difference, but shops importing items is different to an item being sent privately and directly. There is a lot of unsafe stuff coming in via ebay, ebay does little to stop it, and I doubt a lot of buyers are aware of the risk and that if anything happens, their insurance may not cover it.
Ebay does not guarantee anything. That's the bottom line. Buy at your own risk.
Ebay is not the place to go buying electronic equipment ot electrical items etc or anything where you want a warranty.
If an item is faulty on arrival, yes, you can jump in and make an ebay claim for a refund within 30 days. After that, you can pretty much consider your money lost, unfortunately.

Is the seller registered here or in China?
Are they an authorised seller for the brand?
If not any and every electrical items purchased from randoms on eBay is a very real hazard and risk, even before and without any official warning or recall
If you did indeed purchase from an authorised seller/ re seller who is registered here, I'd suggest contact the brand they are an authorised seller for directly
